We had a few midweek games against shit northern teams with really poor attendances in the first couple of seasons. I remember a game against Bury getting about 5,000 in 99/00.

Lowest the season since promotion was vs Coventry, 14029. 2010/2011
Lowest the season before promotion was vs Rotherham, 11404.

I think the lowest league was 5393 vs Bury in 1999

Didn't we have a match abandoned v Bury a few years prior to that, 1997? A rained off coca cola cup second round fixture or something?

I think we had about 2,000 at the Mad Stad for Reading v Peterborough in the league cup during the division 2 days/Tommy Burns era.... it was a freezing cold Tuesday night as well if I remember correctly. I remember the cold and Jimmy Quinn playing for Posh, I think it was 1-0 or 0-0... boring, uneventful dull game. Those who stayed at home in the warm were the sensible ones.

Was one of the 1713 record post war low Vs Preston at Elm Park - we blew a 2 goal lead, both from Kerry Dixon, to lose 3-2 and go bottom.

The following week Frank Waller put the club up for sale following demonstrations and sale of Neil Webb in the summer to Portsmouth (same league at the time)

I believe the game was televised for TVS

Lowest league attendance since 05/04/11, when 14844 attended the 2-1 defeat of Preston North End. So 3⅓ calendar years, albeit spread over 5 different seasons, (back end of 2010/11 season to start of 2014/15).

Wasn't in the league - but I'm sure we had under 2,000 for a league cup game against Orient many moons ago.

When talking about low attendances it got me thinking of that Derby away game a few years ago, and sure enough there it was for our lowest away attendance of the 08/09 season, I was at that game since as luck would have it, I was living in Derby at the time so could just walk to the stadium whereas anyone travelling in was unable to because of the horrible weather conditions, just a handful of us in the away end.

At the end of the game I was sure I was gonna get Long's shirt, then some big guy shoved me out of the way and got it.

Yup, got to the ground 5 minutes into the 2nd half and saw us comeback and win - first time i'd seen us win away for 2 years - it must've been December 2010 though...

Thanks, as always, Strap.

Another one, if I may:

During the period when we shipped 3 goals per game (now over, I hope...) I started wondering what is
a. the highest number of goals conceded by Reading in a season
b. the highest number of goals scored by Reading in a season

I suspect that we may have to go back to the Jack Mansell era but would really appreciate any information.

Yes, about 1500 I think for a game in the Tonka Toy Trophy (or whatever the "no-one caress about this until the area finals" cup was called back then) in 1999 or 2000

Surely 99 is the most we have scored?

Getting his games mixed up. 08/09 was a 2-0 win on a slightly chilly night in April, Coppell even commented on the lovely layer of dew on the carpet of a pitch.

The match he refers to was December 2010, freezing cold, loads of people missed out due to the snow in Reading and the coaches turned back. Compo, RG30 and I ditched the car at Didcot and trained it up, got in 4 minutes after kick off just in time to see Derby hit the beans. 2-1 win, late Bywater f**k up, Long brace. That was the game that kickstarted his season.
