Will95 Yepp 12 and not there! Only ever gone to Aston Villa away by then!

Sorry so you had only been to Villa away by the end of the 07/08 season?

My calculation's work out that we have played 51 (not including Villa) different teams in the league since then and only 4 more different teams in the cup. If you chuck Wembley in then that makes a total of 56 possible grounds.

So out of a possible of 56 grounds in competitive games you have visited 48 (not inc Villa) of them?

bullshit.

Edited to add that is not including the madjeski.

How many absolute "die hard" fans are there 8000 ? With about another 4000 "floaters" who will turn up provided they've got nothing better on ? Leaving about another 4000 who might turn up as its a kids birthday or lads day out or take their girlfriend or corporates/Waitrose freebie ticket holders (there are a couple of hundred of Waitrose tickets ) ?
I would have to say I am something between "die hard" & "floater" even though I am a season ticket holder, so I accept the demarcation is not exact.
It doesn't help also that despite having a pretty good team sheet on paper-this is the worst performing Reading Team I have seen since Tommy Burns (bless him) time as Manager.Quite a few times this season, last season & post McD Reading performances have been somewhere between pathetic and boring
Also I don't really like evening games as it's a bit of a bitch getting there for 8.00pm on a Tuesday/Wednesday.
I seem to recall the Elm Park atmosphere was usually pretty good-closer to the pitch/ more closed in ?

Will95 did not claim that all his away ground visits were for competitive games.

I hope the new owners show some initiative in filling the stadium. The football team is a integral part of the local community and town, teams thrive on support and a club like Reading should be looking for expansion of stadium capacity.

I include friendlies (Exeter, Bournemouth (been since in league), Stevenage, Wycombe). Not including Villa done (first visits only:
2008/9: Burnley
2009/10: West Brom, Cardiff
2010/11: Portsmouth, Man City, Coventry
2011/12: Bristol City, Ipswich, Watford, Millwall, Barnsley, Posh, West Ham, Brighton, Saints, Birmingham
2012/13: Chelsea, QPR, Swansea, Liverpool, Spurs, Crawley, Newcastle, Stoke, Everton, Man Utd, Arsenal, Fulham
2013/14: Bolton, Blackpool, Yeovil, Derby, Sheff Wed, Blackburn, Forest, Huddersfield, Leicester, M'boro, Leeds, Charlton, Wigan, Doncaster
2014/15 (so far): Scunthorpe, Brentford

That is 44+ Bournemouth = 45 + Villa = 46 + 3 friendlies only = 49 + Wembley = 50 + MadStad = 51

Royal Lady
willz_royal
Royal Lady Well I apologise most profusely - every post you make I've been imagining Willz making it - so I need to get out of that habit - but let that be a warning NEVER to make up a lie at a football match!

Obsessed

Suppose it's my word vs your post count so you'll win every time... But harboring a vendetta for 6 years over a false allegation (how do you suppose I managed to listen to fm radio over your bleating?) puts you squarely in the category of "Embarassing fan" does it not?

I sincerely hope you take this bitterness to your impending grave.

Best x

What a charming young man you've turned out to be.... Did you search your name to find these posts?

You most certainly did tell people an incorrect score to make us think we were staying up - I saw you turn around and tell people.

A woman with 47000 posts on an internet message board accuses someone browsing the top thread on the front page of the only RFC message board of self importance? Then cuff me now officer, I'm quite obviously obsessed with my 8 year old hobnob account...

"i saw you turn around and tell people", honestly, how old are you?

floyd__streete Sobering thought that there is now a generation of loyal, regualr match going fans (who presumably attend on their own rather than with mummy and daddy :?: ) for whom the Madejski Stadium is the extent of their 'home' matchday experience

No wonder the home game vibe is so appalling, when they only have the Madejski Stadium atmosphere as a reference point. I don't even think Reading supporters are remotely noisy/passionate away from home these days; can recall trips to places like Palace in the 90s and even early 00's when you felt breathless at times joining in with 1,500 noisy, beered up Reading fans for 90 minutes.

I guess the game has changed really, football crowds don't sing anywhere any more. And if you think about it, how ridiculous is it to sing songs in support of a bunch of well-paid grown men you don't know

I take your point about the supporters being more vocal 10-20 years ago, I'm sure it was better and I kind of feel I missed out on that. The game has definitely changed - the stadiums, the prices, the people. Despite this I still think I've been at a few good atmosphere's at away games. I would say the amount of noise at an away depends on a number of factors. Obviously the amount of people we take there, then what sort of form we are in/ how well were playing, what happens in the game and the importance of it etc.

Also when I had a season ticket in the East Stand we made a fair bit of noise, particularly in the first Premier League season (it the loudest part of the ground and next to the away fans). There was plenty of singing and banter with them, taking the piss as well (most memorably v Chelsea) But it's true the Madejski doesnt seem to any atmosphere at all these days, but I guess that was a one of a kind season.

The fans from the "singing" era have now all grown up, have families and enjoy a day out emptying their wallets in the Megastore at Jr's beckoning instead of sinking pints in the Royals Rendezvous pre match.

The only place the more 'trad' experience still remains is probably in non league, where vocal "characters" make up a larger percentage of the crowd

The game experience has changed, it'll never come back
