The best RFC game you've ever been to?

by RoyallyFcuked » 07 Nov 2014 20:26

For me, there's a few but it was probably the 4-3 away win at Forest in 2010/11, amazing topsy turvy game of football that we deservedly won in the last minute. We were on a great run at the time and there was an overwhelming feeling we were going up, even though it didnt end that away.

The 4-2 away win at West Ham a season later was up there as well, our fans were brilliant on both those days. Two great late season charges under McD and I won't forget that, at least we went up the second time! (I missed Southampton away the same season)

2005/06 was the first year I went to more than a few games, and I have some great memories of games between 2005 and 2007, including a 4-3 away win at Crewe where we memorably sang "We'll never play you again" and so far, I dont think we have!

Also the 2-0 away win at Man City (Leroy Lita du du du du, scored two late goals and had one wrongly disallowed in the first half) When we play them there again it really will be a case of "We were here when you were shit" if ever there was one.

Some brilliant home games as well, the 6-0 vs West Ham most memorably, I remember half of their fans left at half time and the ones that were left started doing the conga  Not to mention the first PL game, opening day 3-2 comeback victory vs Middlesbrough...the fairytale continued... When Yakubu scored to make it 2-0 I remember a guy saying "Its guna be a long hard season" When Kits scrambled home the first one you just had a feeling.....

The best RFC performance I've ever seen was probably the 05/06 season 5-1 win at home to Cardiff, we really were awesome that day. The scoreline flattered Cardiff, could easily have been 10-1. All summed up by the Cardiff fans singing things like "Are you Arsenal in disguise" and "It's just like watching Brazil" 8)

I feel privileged to have been watching Reading during their most successful period, but I'm sure some of you golden oldies have some classic games you can remember from the dark ages  and I'd be interested to hear (read about) them.

Here's to hoping Nige can bring some new glory days before too long...

This one...there can be no better (especially for the third goal)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82FblzkD ... e=youtu.be

The 5-0 v Derby was an emotional 2nd

3-1 v Liverpool third

the 2-2 against Chelsea ( whence 0-2 down) was the most lolworthy

Just watched it, looked like a great day. That Jimmy Quinn goal though!

How did I forget the 5-0 v Derby and the pitch invasion?! Quality

I saw both your last 2 on TV, both brilliant but dont count for me. Pretty sure we came from behind twice v Chelsea (if were talking about the same game)

In terms of what was at stake Tranmere away - tier 2 playoff 1995 takes some beating - we outplayed them and I think they had won something like 20 out of 23 of their home games that season.

For complete performances I'd also rank the Ipswich away game 2005/06 3-0 win highly - after that night I was convinced we'd go up.

two 2-2's..........a goal scored for us by Makele at the Bridge?

The one I was thinking of was actually, when Brians subs came on, Akpan set up ALF (at home ...the Chelsea fans lauding it at 2 up...........then being almost suicidal at 90 minutes)

Yeah I remember listening out for the result of the Ipswich game, that was first time we overtook Sheff Utd to go top if I remember right? (Never to be passed again) 8)

That reminds me of the home game against them that season which I also went to, top of the table clash and a 2-1 win... Super Bryn

I remember some Sheff Utd fans saying something as they drove past as we were walking back to our car. I shouted "We'll catch you at the top of the table" the bloke with his head out the window replied "You won't"..... How wrong he was

and to stoke up an argument....I personally think that Jimmy Q's goal was better than that Robin Friday goal (that I might've been there to see..yet cannot remember too much about).

JQ Still remains our best #9

Good thread.
I was at that 4-3 at Forest in the OP.

Got to vote for the 5-0 v Tranmere in 1976. Biggest buzz ever.

One all at Leicester in 2006 was pretty good too 8)

Ahhh of course. The ALF double slipped my mind, (also watched that on TV tho)

Yeah the one I thought you meant was 2-2 at the bridge in 06/07, Ashley Cole's mishit clearance bounced off (I think) Michael Essien for the late equaliser (which was why it was lolworthy as well!)

Im not a full time supporter.

I was at the Portsmouth 7-4 game.

Was at Blackburn away, mate got arrested for wearing a monkey costume.

City away, was one of the best with leroy smashing em in from 20 yards.

Was at the 2-2 at Elm Park when we gave up our succession. v Wolves.

My best moment, was the og at chelsea that made it to-too, boxing day. my favourite ever moment , went home the happiest man alive .

2001 Playoff semi v Wigan. Second leg. That was the first time I remember a really good atmosphere at the Madejski.

So many great games to think of, with so many memories - amongst them:

Reading 4-3 Oxford 2001
Reading 2-1 Wigan 2001
Reading 2-1 Sheffield United 2005
Reading 5-0 Derby 2006
Cardiff 1-5 Reading 2006
Reading 2-1 QPR 2006
Reading 3-2 Middlesbrough 2006
Reading 6-0 West Ham 2007
Reading 3-2 West Brom 2007
Reading 3-1 Liverpool 2007
Wolves 0-3 Reading 2008
West Brom 2-3 Reading 2010
Cardiff 0-3 Reading 2011
Southampton 1-3 Reading 2012

When I was a student I somehow managed to get to loads of games, including some obscure Tuesday night results away from home I. The championship, clawing back a point from being 2-0 down, getting a late win every now and again, and sometimes just happy to be there, with that feeling that we were watching a special team. I suppose a lot of games from 05-07 could appear as it was such a special team - even the 3-2 defeat to United in the cup, and the seemingly routine (at the time) wins against the likes of Villa, Spurs, Man City, Everton and Newcastle. Crazy days, I don't think we always appreciate quite what we had back then.

Ignoring the wider context of the match and concentrating just on the actual game in isolation

Reading 4 Plymouth 3 (1985)
Simod Cup Final (1988)
Blackpool 0 Reading 4 (1994)
Reading 3 Crystal Palace 2 (2005)
Reading 6 West Ham 0 (2007)
Bolton 1 Reading 3 (2007)
Blackburn 3 Reading 3 (2007)
