Team for Huddersfield (A) FA cup

by Ian Royal » 30 Dec 2014 16:13

So, an opportunity to try some younger players or to put out a strong team for a confidence boosting cup run.

...........................Andersen.
..Cummings...Cooper..Pearce...Obita.
.....................Guthrie..Tshibola.
Mackie....................Cox.............Blackman.
................................HRK

Fed, Hector, Kuhl, Samuel, Tanner, Stacey, Kelly.

Have a look at Samuel and / or Tanner second half at least. Give Blackman, Guthrie and HRK a chance to show what they can do. Blend of experience, recoverers and youth.

Strongest team possible in the FA Cup, for me! HRK never a striker. Either out wide or just behind, but not a striker, and not a lone striker either. He's far too powderpuff.

I may be in the minority but having seen every home game but one and a couple of away games how HRK gets the vote to start by anyone is beyond me.

F*ck that, Ian. This is an entirely winnable game and a chance to string results together back-to-back.

Strongest possible team should be fielded.

Great news about Jem but I wouldn't want him and Guthrie in together.

With Pogrebnyak injured, we don't have any established players who we have any reason to think could play well as a lone striker for us. Cox is the obvious candidate and will probably get the gig, but I think we should use the cup match as a chance to experiment with HRK there.

Protect GMac, get the recovering players some game time, start a reasonably strong side, and experiment later. I hope we see 4-5-1/4-3-3 at some point, if not from the start. That might help with our defensive issues, and wouldn't necessitate an entirely new front two (Cox as the main striker with Mackie or Tanner in behind).

-----------------Andersen------------------
Gunter-----Hector----Pearce-----Obita
--------------------Norwood-----------------
Blackman--Guthrie--Williams--Mackie
------------------Robson-Kanu--------------
Subs: Federici, Cooper, Kelly, Karacan, Tanner, Cox, Samuel/Cardwell
I would like one of the Aarons on the bench but there isn't really room for them.
It would be great if we could get a striker in.

Pretty much this I think, although I agree with Flloyd that this is a winnable game that we should be fielding as strong a team as possible for. If I were Clarke though I'd be ruling out McCleary as he probably needs easing back still and he's obviously still carrying knocks a little.

Back four should stay unchanged, but I can see the logic in giving Andersen the traditional cup run out.

Guthrie is obviously ahead of Karacan in terms of come back and it sounds like it's time to get him involved from the start, either resting Norwood and keeping the 4-4-1-1 we've been playing or resting Cox as per SCIAG's side and going more 4-1-4-1. With our lack of forward options I'd go for the latter as well but my line up would probably be the below, although I'm not sure how the 3 central midfielders would work as Williams looked to be the deepest when all 3 were on the pitch against Norwich.

-----------------Andersen------------------
Gunter-----Hector----Pearce-----Obita
--------------------Norwood-----------------
Mackie--Guthrie--Williams--Robson-Kanu
-------------------Blackman----------------

Karacan to get a good 20 minute run out and hopefully Tanner or Samuel as well. I wouldn't be surprised if Clarke also gives Kelly or Cummings a chance at right back too, especially with the speculation about bids coming in for Gunter.

Give Samuel a start and leave HRK back in Berkshire.

He put in his best performance of the season against Norwich, I'd rather see if he can get a bit of momentum going in a less than critical match rather than cutting him.

He was better but that wasn't difficult when you look at his previous performances.
