MmmMonsterMunch The obvious answer is the pen @ Wembley though. Just gutting.

Just thought of another one that was pretty gutting - the Walcott goal to make it 4-1 in the league cup. Had we shut up shop & got to HT 4-0 up we'd have got through. Not really got over that one yet actually - talk about wasted opportunity to get to Wembley for a cup final.
see, i wouldn't change anything pre 2007 for fear of changing 05 - 07. Which is without a doubt the best life gets.

Yes we could have gone up in 95, but i can't see how we'd have coped and the fallout could risk the greatest period the club has ever seen.

But you wouldn't have known about 05-07 at the time Ian. None of us would have ever envisaged that happening so when I think of all the ups & downs as a fan, it just has to be that pen. Nothing else comes close.

Getting promoted at Wembley is without question the one thing I hope to see us do one day - more so than even a 107 point season for example.

That Bristol Rovers home game. Could have done with a massive thunderstorm at half time. Anything to erase that second half.

Nicky Forster's injury in the Wolves play off away leg.

The Middlesbro League Cup quarter final January 1998, in the last minute everyone thought the ref had given us a free kick so our defence pile forward for a last minute winner. Only for him to decide it was their free kick after all leaving Boro to take the free kick while we had no defenders back. Ref deserved the assist for Craig Hignett's goal.

Boro at home in the league, Easter Monday 1998. Craig Hignett breaks Paddy Kelly's leg thus effectively relegating us.

Craig Hignett's mum scurrying out from under her rock to mate with something beastly from the underworld. This would remove two of my worst moments.

Watching a Michael meaker inspired Bristol rovers run riot at the memorial ground to end up 4 1 winners in the dark days post bullivant.

Barry agricultural hunter hoofing the ball into rougier to complete an unjust comeback for Walsall at Cardiff.

Michael Gilkes joining wolves

The last competitive game at elm park v Norwich, not how I wanted the remember the old ground.

The day the board agreed to let a Russian pr*ck buy 51% of RFC with his father's money.

The Bolton defeat at Wembley still haunts me.

I am sure a lot of Reading fans thought at the the time it would be the closest we would ever get to the top flight. No other single Reading defeat has devastated me so much.

Simple answer is that the team we had before the war, the one that smashed AC Milan and lead to compliments such as we were one of the best sides around at that time; if most of that team hadn't gone to war and lost their lives, this club could have been a much bigger club with a rich history. All what ifs, but we had a decent side that could possibly have grabbed a cup or two back in the day.

+1 for the Arsenal cup game. Easy to forget that we were 4-2 up in the 89th minute too.
That said, whenever I think of that game, I'm reminded of the Arsenal fan I used to work with, who in that 89th minute was trudging disconsolately down the A33 to his car, about to hear the first of 6 more goals (5 for his team) hit the back of the net.

+1, having seen us fck up three times (ok, once in Cardiff), conceding 11 goals in the process. Maybe the worst for me was Swansea when I flew over with my son for his first ever game. Three nil down after 20 minutes :| .

Still, I met Green that evening, so not all was lost.

I'm not defending Burns here because Jimmy Mac aside, he bought garbage but he turned up 2 weeks before transfer deadline and inherited a godawful team. devoid of spirit and confidence that was already up to it's neck in shit, all thanks to us employing Bullivant, taking a month to do it and leaving him a week before the start of the season to plunder Barnet for talent (In fairness, Hodges and Primus were half decent). A decisive appointment early in the summer of 97 could have seen everything pan out so differently, especially considering the people showing an interest in the job.

This probably. Hated it.

If you erase the penalty miss at Wembley does that mean we just wouldn't have had a penalty?

Not erase, but change:

Losing those two league games in the 106 season.

The Stephen Hunt/Peter Chech incident

Chris Casper's career ending injury against Cardiff in 1999-2000 at leading to early retirement age 24

Oh I'd love a Wembley promotion. But for me nothing beats 106 and the Bolton loss only makes it so much sweeter.

Whilst i didn't know about 106 in 95 i do now.

But then i was a clueless plastic 14 yeat old in 95. i had no idea how big a deal it was and that it might be our only chance in my lifetime. I just thought we'd do it the next year.

The time when the club withdrew Steve Death's club house causing him to walk out after 12 years service and resulting in our having to borrow a young lad from Andover Town to go in goal against Swindon.
