Rather see Cooper get an extended run in the side.

Longer lay off for Pearce than expected maybe? Otherwise at a loss to explain this.

Might mean that we can rest Hector on Saturday ahead of Monday, alongside Cooper, then have Pearce and Hector back in place and fresh for Bradford. I can't imagine Pearce missing out against Bradford whatever the extent of his nose break.

With no Ferdinand we lack any experience beyond Pearce and so it makes sense to see us through to the end of the season, even if it's not the most exciting signing ever.

We're already playing Saturday-Tuesday every week until the end of the season and that's before you factor in a potential postponement for the FA Cup semi final so I reckon he's a decent short term signing that gives much needed cover and experience in central defence.

He's head and shoulders above any other defender we've got.

With Cooper around he isn't head and shoulders above everybody  .
One of the things about following a club is that you have no say in what goes on but that doesn't stop us liking or disliking a signing.
Anton Ferdinand was a signing that I didn't like and now this player who has been one of the dodgiest defenders that I have ever seen.
I don't disagree with the reason for signing another old boy and with only a few league games left I suppose it doesn't matter much but I would have liked possibly to have seen a loan signing that we might have a chance of signing next season to improve the squad (like Maguire from Hull who has gone out on loan) rather than a player who won't be with us beyond this season.

VM, generally I'd agree with that but I just don't think we're likely to be going out to get a loan signing like that who's obviously going to be coming in and expecting to start.

The back end of the season is a perfect time for Hector and Cooper to enhance their claims for a spot next season and to pick up vital experience of their own. Having Knight just gives us a bit of depth and experience at a low cost just in case of emergencies.

I agree HB about Cooper and Hector having more game time but I would have been happy with Kelly as the extra back-up centre-back especially with only 10 league games left which are now of no great importance.
Presumably this signing means that our injured signing Ferdinand will remain injured for nearly the whole season-what a terrible signing (and not posted in hindsight).

Totally agree on Ferdinand VM, and I think pretty much everyone else did too. Apart from the relationship with the Thais I just can't understand why we signed him.

You can get high quality items at very good prices shopping at Lidl and Aldi. However when you only frequent the 99p store you really are asking to be bitterly disappointed.

It's starting to look like Hammond is a big fan of:

So Financial fair play does not exist in your universe?
FFS we all know that the club cannot buy anyone at the moment, perhaps you may like to inform Steve Clarke of a better experienced central defender available on a free that wants to come to reading.
