Yeh HA,HA,Ha, just like when he teamed up with the vastly underrated Michael Meacher with Bristol Rovers who gave us a home 6-0 tonking.

I was laughing (still would be if I hadn't run out of puff) at your suggestion that we should get Cureton and Martin Allen back.

Dammit, you've started me off again.

72 bus Meaker is possibly the worst wide player I have ever seen in a Reading shirt, Paul Brooker runs him pretty close but Meaker was a huge disappointment at the time, QPR mugged us off bit time.

M8! Meaker was a bit useless at times, but holey canoley. We're talking about a club who paid money for Mark Reilly and Jimmy Crawford

Yeh, he actually wasn't too shabs by the end of his Reading career. Started off terribly, and was never really forgiven for being part of the Simon Osborn deal.

As I always say in defence of Meaks, without him Adie wouldn't have scored for us whilst playing for Wolves.

He wasn't great and certainly not in Osborn's class. But he was ok. Brooker was just horrendous. Not only was he cack, he was gutless.

taipairoyal Not another raw talented youngster, what we need is a proven out and out striker ( at this level) someone of the Jamie Cureton mould.
In fact he is still playing and banging in the goals 19 last season. Would be great to have him back, and what about Mad Dog Allen as assistant to dead pan Clarke, someone with a bit of passion, "He would get those players going".

I love Curo, I'd have him back if we could swap him with the Russian carthorse.

Yes, I do believe a 40 year old Jamie Cureton would score more goals than Pavel Pogrebnyak.

On the Rowan Liburd subject however, in this article Steve Clarke says we were lucky to land him.

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... re-9761333

Sounds like he did really well on his U21s debut, could be the natural goalscorer that we need and I reckon he might to turn out to be one of our classic bargain signings and do really well. Maybe the next non league gem like Charlie Austin?

Good luck Rowan

Pogrebnyak has a better goal record at this level than Cureton and he's spent the last 6 years moving around Leagues 1 and 2.

Actually both have a slightly worse than 1 goal every 3 games ratio, but Pog has played a lot less games which means its easier for his ratio to be better.

Cureton scored 19 goals in League Two last season, I'm not even sure Pog could have done that at any stage in his career, let alone as a 39 year old. Curo was also Championship top scorer in 2006-07 season for Colchester with 23 goals.

Curo is a natural goalscorer, Pog isnt. Let me know when Pog scores 250 career goals yeah?

Any idea how many 40 year olds have scored a single goal in either of the top 2 divisions in the last 20 years ?

Start with Sheringham....

Just Sheringham isn't it? I'm struggling to think of many strikers who even played into their 40s. It was kind of a tongue in cheek comment really, I was just imagining that Pog will score about 4 goals this season and reckon even a 40 year Cureton could top that. He is a natural finisher and you can be sure he would put away a few of the chances that came to him. Age is just number

Pog's scored more than 4 league goals every season for 10 years. Cureton? Since he left Reading, he's failed to break 4 goals on five occasions. Some of those were because he wasn't getting picked, but that tells its own story. It's obviously unfair to compare their goal records because whilst Pog's spent the bulk of his career in three of the ten best leagues in the world, Cureton's played 700 matches in the Football League...

Ryan Giggs?

Meaker was an 110% player. If he played at 100% he'd of been in Division 3. I liked him for that sole reason

Definitely must have been 2 Meakers at the club !

My recollections of him was he had lots of ability, just not the application. By far the most frustrating sort of player because you could see that if they worked a bit harder they could do so much more with the ability they had.

A bit of a lower spec version of James Lambert.

But funny how time warps our recollections of things, I am happy to concede my memory may be wrong and others more accurate.

You just made me spit tea across my keyboard and its now coming out of my nostrils.

For reading
Pogrebnyak 93 apps 24 goals
Cureton 108 apps 50 goals

I cannot see Pogrebnyak scoring 50 goals for Reading even if he spent the rest of his career here.
Cureton scored one less (23) in a single season in the Chump than Pog has managed in all the time he has been here.

Four things for you to take away from this.

Pog will never score 23 goals in a championship season
Pog will never score 250 career goals
Win the Divisions golden boot
Have a star named after him by Reading supporters.
