WestYorksRoyal Dai can't play hardball on the ground. A ground without a team to play there is worthless

Hardly worthless, it's land, and it's near a motorway, people will pay a lot for that land.

Built on a refuse site. It's not good for much.

And yet it has a stadium on it, so... it must be worth something now, otherwise you couldn't risk 20,000 people all stuck there for hours at a time.

And where do Coventry now play? They pulled off an annoying stunt for a few years but ultimately found no value without Coventry playing in it.

And how long were they unable to play there, and how many years were they ground sharing? Dai could be a huge thorn in our side if he wants to be. We need to part ways as amicably as possible.

3 or 4 years. And how much money did the owners make from the stadium in those years? We don't know, but we do know they tried a pathetic attempt to take legal action against Northampton for hosting them, which suggests they were pretty desperate to see the rent coming back in.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be awful. I'm saying it would make no commercial sense for Dai to be too tough, unless he was simply being vindictive in which case we're fcuked anyway given our financial dependency.

The nearest league standard ground is Wycombe. After that you are looking at Aldershot or Oxford. Any money we'd save by not paying Dai rent would be far outweighed by the loss of crowds.

Half the clubs in London would be a piece of piss.

What sort of crowds would we get playing League One football groundsharing at QPR?

And no, going to London for a game every other week would be an utter ball ache for a large number of fans, especially midweek.

And other than QPR, what grounds are viable options? No premier league club would have us unless we could pay a rent to make it worthwhile (which we wouldn't be able to).

We are hardly going to groundshare with Millwall, Charlton or Leyton Orient. Watford would also be a pretty horrible trip, as would going to Wimbledon or Barnet.

So no, we don't have a 'shit ton' of options. We have Wycombe, Oxford, Aldershot or QPR, all of which would be awful.

It was 6 years I believe.

3 at Northampton and 3 at Brum.

There's no chance of us going to Aldershot or Oxford. No way, would be too dangerous for security. It would be Wycombe, QPR or maybe Brentford.

The Ricoh (as it was) was initially owned by Coventry Council and the Higgs charity. Coventry City paid rent to host their home games there (even though the ground had been built as a replacement for Highfield Road) so they (or their owners at that time) NEVER owned it. The club then disputed the amount of rent they were paying which the ground owners at the time refused to back down on so Coventry opted to look for elsewhere to play and wound up in Northampton (about 40 miles away). With them gone the ground was vacant and the owners sold it to Wasps (who relocated from Adams Park). Coventry managed to agree a groundshare with Wasps but were always on the short end of the stick and despite returning for a season or two left again after another dispute. When Wasps went bust the ground was bought by the Fraser group who were happy to have Coventry back on, currently, a 5 year lease (ends in 2028).

Swindon?

Swindon own their own ground now, in partnership with (shareholder) fans. Sure they'd welcome the income to assist in the longer term redevelopment of the ground.

All thanks to a legacy left by a fan , Nigel Eady, who was a farmer near Wantage. Already enabled the Swindon Town FC community foundation to spend several millions on facilities behind the ground.

genome Erm, blimey, wasn't expecting that.

Having agreed a £130m deal with the Tigers - the takeover is reported to have fallen through following the Premier League’s fit and proper persons’ checks on members of their consortium.

Sounds promising

To coin a phrase at the peak of our success, we must cut our cloth, and now we're threadbare. For the rag bin?
