Mid Sussex Royal Looking at it now I'd say its any 2 from Exeter downwards along with Carlisle and Fleetwood.

Fleetwood are fighting hard but it looks like they have too much ground to make up, they likely need circa 2 points a game which isn't likely.

Worry for Port Vale, tough run in, loads of catch up games and three losses since Moore came in which they would have seen as an opportunity to get some points.

Charlton, no idea if I'm honest, on paper the best squad down there, but no wins still since November and the pressure will really be on the longer that goes on and when they play sides around them.

Cambridge, one to watch, third manager now this season and just lost Harris suddenly which will have caused disruption, next couple of games are Stevenage and Bolton, and have lost 4 in last 5.

I believe that Fleetwood, under any on their three incarnations (Fleetwood (1908-1976), Fleetwood Town (1977-1996) or Fleetwood Wanderers/Freeport/Town (1997-present), have never been relegated from any division in which they have played. Think they would be the only club in the top 4 divisions with that record.

Burton (home to Carlisle) and Shrewsbury (away at Lincoln) will both move above Reading if they get a point or more on Tuesday.

Agree, would also break their 8 game losing streak ahead of Saturday. We all know what's going to happen if we rock up with Carlisle having lost 9 out of 9...

Calm yourself down to a panic mate.

If you actually read the post rather than jumping on your high horse immediately, you would have been able to tell that:

a) Carlisle was a typo - a dumb one but clearly a typo
b) the table comes after my predictions for tomorrow, so is my predicted table - hence why all the teams due to play tomorrow have both played one extra game than today and have different points based on my prediction.

Hope that helps.

I'm still bewildered why we have 4 relegation spots in this division. I get it's how it's always been, but that's no reason to keep it. L2 gets an easy ride, 4 promoted and only 2 relegated.

If it was only 3 down, I'd be about 95% confident of survival by now. As it is, it's more like 70%. I know it's a poor league, but the team in 21st really won't be much poorer than half the league in my view.

It's a hangover of the addition of the 4th division in 1958/59 season.

Prior to that, 2 sides from D3N and 2 from D3S had to apply for re-election if they finished 23rd and 24th. The decision was made to turn these directly into relegation spots - so that clubs below the 3rd tier still had the same available amount of spots available to take.

It has just hung around - the best thing to have done would have been to re-jig the relegation places once automatic relegation from the league became a thing in the 80s and even more so when the 2nd spot was added.

So yeah, thats why its there but I can't imagine teams likely to be in the bottom tier will ever vote for it as it drops their chances of promotion by 25% and also keeps the division more interesting for long term residents as they get 6 new opponents each season.

Worth noting that by the time we play Wycombe - Charlton and Cheltenham will have played 3 games to our 1 - so we will actually have a game in hand over Charlton.

They also play each other in that run, so someone is guaranteed to drop points.

The time to have changed the 4 up / 4 down regime would have been when the 2 up / 2 down rules between D1 / D2 / D3 were changed - was that in the late ‘70s? If the 4th tier wanted to retain the “interesting” element, they could use the NL’s format for the play-offs, which would mean 8th place gets into the P/O.
