If Cardiff hadn’t chartered a dodgy aircraft with a discredited pilot it could have all been so different

Shame on them.

Wasn't it the agent who chartered the plane rather than Cardiff?

If it was, and unless he was also the agent contracted to Nantes, and further unless Nantes requested him to arrange said flight …… Cardiff have 3 hopes

One’s a boxer
One was an actor/comedian
The other is absolutely no hope

IIRC, Sala was going to take a regular flight over but it wasn't for a couple of days and Cardiff wanted him in the country sooner so it was a question of a mate of a mate knows someone type of thing.

It was all instigated by Cardiff.

I'm just bemused that anyone at Cardiff thinks they even remotely have a leg to stand on.

Orion1871 Not currently rivals, but what a bunch of twats.

"Cardiff City is taking legal action against FC Nantes, seeking €120.2 million following a study suggesting they had a 54.2% chance of avoiding relegation with Emiliano Sala. They plan to submit an invoice of €120.2m to the French club."

A study by someone at Cardiff University? It all sounds a bit if my Uncle had a fanny she’d be my Aunt. Wasn’t it the agent who suggested the flight with the dodgy plane. The pilot who died, who seems to be not mentioned very often and gets forgotten about, was an innocent party too and had reservations about the condition of the plane being used beforehand. I thought it was Cardiff City and the agent who were in a rush to fly him to Cardiff when the player wanted to get a normal commercial flight. They were probably worried about being gazumped over the signing.

Cardiff have spent years trying to not pay FC Nantes the transfer fee they owe them, surely with all the legal costs built up it would have been better to have paid up, but wasn’t the problem that Cardiff hadn’t told their insurance broker to add Sala to their insurance cover?

And I presume Nantes will file the invoice in the shredder

Hang on.
If Cardiff raise an invoice and are allowed to include it in their accounts, it may save them from further FFP issues in the short term.
Then, if bad debt write offs are excluded from FFP (I have no idea whether they are), this could wipe out the FFP issues altogether.

A wizard wheeze if they get away with it

And they then get done for false accounting.

I can't see why Cardiff are suing Nantes over this.

- Cardiff buy Sala from Nantes with a fee agreed.

- Sala signs for and is registered by Cardiff, and is a Cardiff player (as determined by a Court)

- Cardiff pay Nantes the agreed transfer fee.

- Sala dies in a tragic accident.

- Cardiff get relegated from the Premier League

So, where is Nantes' liability in Cardiff's relegation? They seem to be the wholly innocent Party in all of this.

It would be like Man United suing Ajax for £85M because their purchase of the Ajax player Anthony for £85M didn't result in Man United winning the Premier League!

He may have had reservations about the plane but they didn't extend to owning up to not having a licence for the type of plane or not being allowed to fly at night.
Ibbotson's rating for flying the aircraft had expired in November 2018 which invalidated his licence, and he was not qualified to fly at night. David Henderson, who organised the flight and was originally scheduled to be the pilot, was charged with endangering the safety of an aircraft. He was found guilty on 28 October 2021, after a trial at Cardiff Crown Court and jailed for 18 months.

This. Any pilot who has reservations about an aircraft would not take the aircraft. The fact he knew he wasn’t licensed to fly the type or at night yet did so says a lot about him.

You think he should have been charged with manslaughter? Good luck with that one!

Yep, most likely got charged with the crime that they felt they had the best chance of getting a conviction in given he wasn't the one actually flying the plane.

Cheltenham 2-0 up early on v Peterborough reserves.

Cambridge in danger as much as Burton, unless they can beat Wycombe tonight.

So Cambridge need at least a point against Vale, or Cheltenham to not win or Burton to lose.

Ideal results imo are Burton lose, Cambridge at least draw and Cheltenham win.

At the top, it would be the most hilarious bottle job if Derby lose to Carlisle on Saturday, but even then Bolton would need a 4 goal swing to catch them. Chances probably at about 1%.
