Why do the U21's play 4-4-2 when the 1st XI play 4-6-0?

HeinzGuderian Wasn't there a story recently that stated Stam had installed the dames formation and style of play into all of our agegroups?

Other way round - the first team are finally playing the way that our youth teams have been playing for about ten years.

Haven't seen the U21s this season so can't comment on how they play, but they don't really have the personnel for 4-3-3. The best wide players are fairly conservative players like Sheppard rather than forwards like Aluko and Barrow. U18s might be able to pull it off.

Surely more important they follow the same ethos ie patient short passing rather than route one / direct wing play / spoiler counterattacking etc than the exact shape is replicated.
