URZZZZ Watson has done OK for himself at Charlton

Our very own favourite Aluko is well liked amongst the Ipswich staff and supporters (although more so in a coaching and mentoring capacity rather than on the pitch)

Morrison has maintained a decent level for the stage of his career that he’s at

Not sure how the likes of Araruna and McNulty have got on

Araruna doesn't have a club, not sure if he ever got fit. McNulty is playing for Orange County SC in the USL Championship - so 2nd Tier of US football.

Bit late to the party with this one but it’s really noticeable how many players have struggled since leaving us over the course of the past couple of seasons

Talking about the likes of Laurent, Rinomhota, Meite, Ince, Hendrick and Fornah (doesn’t even make the bench for a L1 side!). Moore and Drinkwater never found clubs (can add Ejaria although he is a recent one). Lumley hasn’t played a minute of league football. Joao and Puscas haven’t kicked on. Swift has been largely underwhelming for West Brom although alongside Dele-Bashiru, probably the best of a bad bunch. Imagine we can add McIntyre to this list if he carries on his trend of not being able to play more than 3 games without pulling up.

Don’t blame any player for wanting out given the situation we find ourselves in. But just a thought that perhaps the grass isn’t always greener

also goes to show that they were all pretty shit and the reason we've been shit for years isn't just manager related, its that the players were never really good enough. But for some reason the players never really got the grilling they deserved, and got off lightly imo. Always pointing the finger at the managers yes they have been pretty shit too, but we simply had too many journey men who were not interested or showed any passion to be here.

It is a bit weird though - some of those like Ince and Laurent were generally good for us. I mean we can say they were shit and the managers were shit but they were good enough to keep us up or be in teams close to the play offs under Pauno

Didn’t realise Fornah wasn’t playing. Had noticed Meite’s Cardiff record is appalling (1 goal 0 assists in 25+ games), Ince not playing etc

Think Laurent and Swift have had good and bad spells - similar to what they had here.

Has there actually been any successes of who have left us in the last 2-3 years bar the mighty Olise and Osho?

I think it shows just how much of succeeding is about being in the right place at the right time.

There's no doubt that Meite, Joao, Laurent, Swift, Rinomhota and Moore etc were good players who performed well for a sustained period with us.

Yes, they all had limitations. Yes, none of them have really gone on and succeeded elsewhere. Although Joao hit his peak with us, and Meite had a career threatening injury.

Laurent and Rino were good but had clear limitations in their strengths and weaknesses. Swift was always a bit up and had career threatening injury.

We've also seen plenty of good players fail at Reading for various reasons despite doing well before and/or after.

It seems to be most of the successful players are the one's who have come through our academy generally speaking. OIise and Osho both playing in the PL, Olise the obvious standout, but even some of those are now good/established Championship players. Stacey has played in the PL, Championship probably his level, Dickie and Cooper are established Championship players who were once touted for the PL, Holmes will be in the PL/Champ with Luton (or a loan elsewhere) next season I'd imagine etc. Can add your Fosu's and Hyam's to this list as well and so on.

Not the case for all though, Rino hasn't gone anywhere significant and seems to be going backwards and obviously a lot of others have been released and not made it back.

Which shows how dreadful our recruitment has been, and how much better off we'd have been if we saved in fees and wages and gave Academy players more pitch time.

Decent observation that YR and true. Suspect there’s a shout there for good consistent coaching from a young age bearing fruit

There are plenty who have come through and not made it of course but the successes are a great advert for it

Thought Tenai Watson had a decent game for Charlton yesterday.

Only looked a few Charlton comments on Twitter (yes I know) and they were picking him out and giving him pelters for a poor display. Forgot it was him tbh so didn’t take a lot of notice. Didn’t think Thomas had much of a game though

Nothing on the Wrexham website about him being sacked.

Playing a few games for Reading can really set you up for the highest football honours.

Emi Martinez World Cup winner 2022
Nathan Ake Champions League and World Club Cup winner 2023
Emerse Fae AFCON winner 2024

Nice to hear the BBC commentator noted that we lost every game Fae started for us - but didn’t put that down to him being useless. Only helpful thing I ever saw him do was take a dive to win a pen for the Reserves at Aldershot when playing Pompey. Think he scored it as well. Expect his mind will be on other things tonight.

Feels weird the club tweeting congrats to Fae for the AFCON win when he was nothing but a disaster for us who ended up refusing to play for us.

Apparently the fans have started to turn against him and his tactics and, given their resources and expectations, 4 defeats in a row isn't great.
