Kevin Watson was on TalkSport a few weeks back talking about VAR and refereeing and he was really good.

He was a great player, I always think he would be useful in one of the pivot positions in midfield in the modern game. Almost never gave the ball away.

Will be interesting to see how he gets on.

By all accounts was a very decent coach when here.

Dom Hyam (skipper) took the 5th penalty and missed v Newcastle last night.

Seems to have had a decent career since we let him go.

Scored their equaliser against Norwich on Saturday too. Wish he'd got a proper chance at Reading...

They're a lovely little club in Pilton/Granton in Edinburgh - really community focussed and run lots of teams at every age group. Were knocking on the door of the SPFL for quite a few years. Used to go and watch them quite a bit when I lived nearby.

Watched Oxford City vs Aldershot today - Tetek played all game, Josh Barrett came on for last 5 minutes. Tetek was pretty quiet all game - did not look like someone playing below his level ... JB just looked fat.

SCIAG Was thinking about the players in recent years we’ve lost before they could make an impact.

Thierry Nevers is one of them. Best remembered for this ridiculous piece of football: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comment ... y_thierry/

If he’d stuck with us he’d probably have had a similar amount of opportunity to Azeez. Instead he went to West Ham, and had a couple of uneventful loan spells. Now playing in Transnistria. If you’re thinking “that’s not a country”, correct - it’s a Putin-sponsored breakaway region of Moldova.

The flip side is Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who is still only 19 (same age as Vickers) but has made 15 appearances in the Bundesliga for Dortmund this season.

Also in the Bundesliga was Jordi Osei-Tutu, a full-back who jumped ship to Arsenal, had some Championship loans and then ended up with Bochum. In January he got sent on loan to Giannina, who are currently 12th/14 in the Greek top flight.

Speaking of Greece, Jordan Holsgrove is an Olympiakos player, but is spending this season on loan at Estoril, who are 14th/18 in the Portuguese top flight. He seems to be a regular, and is playing alongside Eliaquim Mangala. Better standard than League One.

Diamond Edwards is 20, and missed a year due to an ACL injury, but hasn’t hugely pushed on at Southampton. Under contract until summer 2025 - if we lose Knibbs in the summer then he’s the sort of player we could look at taking on loan.

Feels too early to judge Princewell Ehibhationham, Imari Samuels, Luca Fletcher, and obviously Vickers and Harris.

Yea interesting review - bit of a shame on Holsgrove as he was starting to look useful and jumped ship before making the first team
Think he got some useful chances in pre-season, then we immediately signed a bunch of no hopers that meant he'd be nowhere near the squad and decided he'd rather leave and try his hand elsewhere. It was towards the end of the period where we were just throwing away young talent so we could sign aging failures who'd once had a sniff of the PL

Just checked - he left the summer that we signed Laurent, and before we got Semedo on loan. Paunovic did seem to take more of a shining to Tetek who was a very similar but younger player (at least until Neil Warnock ended his professional career). Tbh I never thought Tetek was as talented as Holsgrove, who just had that "easy on the eye" quality to him.

But Celta was a good move for Holsgrove. He got to play in La Liga. Of the 80 academy players who have made their debut for us, I think 18 have played at that level or equivalent (about half of them for us). Can think of about another ten who have been in our academy at some time without making a first-team debut who have played at that sort of level - Austin, Wickham, Ji Dong-Won, Nam Tae-Hee (Ligue 1), Osei-Tutu, Shandon Baptiste, Holsgrove, Mawson, Eze, and Bynoe-Gittens.

Most likely, he hasn't got off the bench as much as last season and he has started fewer matches, too. Was surprised to see on his wiki page that he signed a four year contract there in January given his lack of playing time. At 23, I'd have thought he would be looking to get out and start playing rather than continually sitting on their bench.

Caversham United are absolutely BUZZING to announce the signing of #ReadingFC legend and ex-@premierleague star Dave Kitson

Dave Kitson joins The Goats for an “undisclosed fee” and will make his @RDGSundayLeague debut on #SundayLeagueDay, 24 March, against none other than @RoseThistleFC in the Mapledurham Derby!
