Richards Obita or Blackett ?

by Westwood52 » 13 Nov 2019 12:21

Who’s our first choice LB. ?

Richards Good energy, getting better ,great potential.Less nervous now, than previously.
Might be short on pace, and could be bullied.Positional sense ?

Obita.Elusive,experienced.Got a goal in him.Not the best defensively,Might be a bit physically fragile.

Blackett.Good in the air.Physical.Wand of a left foot.Prone to misjudgement and lack of concentration. But can play CB.

As a LB probably :
Blackett > Richards > Obita

As a LWB probably :
Obita > Richards > Blackett

But it’s all pretty close, none are good enough to stand out from the others, none are bad enough to lag behind

This time a year ago, I’d completely written Richards off however, so the transformation in his play is good to see

Interestingly, 2 of the 3 are ooc at the end of the season. I suspect depending on where we are in the table that might come into play.

Alternatively, there could be some interest from other teams in Richards, either in January or the summer, which would make keeping one of, if not both, the other 2 important.

For now, I think I'd slightly go with Obita. Close over Richards though, sounds like he was excellent on Saturday. See Blackett more as a spare CB

there are very few better LB's in the division than a fully fit, match fit, confident Obita. If he can get back to the sort of form he had before his injury. there is no question 100% obita

I probably favour:

LB - Blackett, Obita, Richards
LWB - Obita, Richards, Blackett

But Richards has really come on and ultimately its whoever is training and playing best.

If Swift is taking all the corners then Obita is slightly less valuable, as he used to have a superb corner on him back in the Jobi days, but if he's not taking them that's not really a plus point.

Always good to have decent left foot and right foot options for set pieces. But I agree, with Swift playing well it's not so critical.

I think Obita is the best, most rounded player of the 3 if I'm honest. But he can't play every week at the moment given his time our.

Blackett is a last resort LWB in this formation. Better left back though.

Can only be between Obita and Richards for me, very close call, while the former as a goal and assist in his last two apps, Richards has an outrageous first touch and control, defensively both on par. both plus Yiadom need to work on their crossing.

I can play either full back position or DM actually.

Badly in all.

Ah, the classic trio of positions for the incapable park footballer.

Could you do a job as a “defensive winger” when protecting a narrow lead?

Not on an XI a side pitch at the moment.

You've got me nailed otherwise.

Remember when we had to sign some random LB on a free because we had nobody? Anyone remember his name? I think it was the same season we played Kelly at LB.
