RG30 Think international broadcasters also play a huge role in the decision making. They're hardly going to spend hundreds of millions in broadcasting fees with the view of showing Kidderminster Reading.

I can only speak for the channel that has the rights here but last year on the 3rd round weekend, they showed all games that were live on UK TV plus around 10 others as well as a Conference of all games were they cut to goals going in.

Millwall v Palace and Hull v Everton are utterly ridiculous picks to show as live games; zero appeal outside of the fan base of each club.

But both are decent shouts for a shock, esp. with the weakened teams the PL clubs will put out.

Yes but nobody cares about it because it wouldn't be that much of a shock. The lowest ranked team knocking out a team from 4 leagues above them is far more interesting to the general public.

Do they still do match highlights for cup games? I'd actually rather watch those than a live game anyway. Of course they'd ruin it by devoting half of the time for each match to manager interviews and panel discussions, but at least we'd be on that.

...pauses for a Ron Manager style reflection of Barry Davies commentating on highlights of Maidstone v Reading on a Wednesday night.

I find it highly doubtful supporters will be allowed into grounds by then.

Been reading in social media that some Kiddy fans are complaining about a price hike for our game.

Reminds me of that time in the 80s when Aldershot drew someone big in the cup and decided to charge £21 a ticket. Pretty sure it was someone like Forest or Villa so not even one of the big 5. Bearing in mind at the time it cost somewhere between £2 and £2.50 to get in to Elm Park, they sold a bumper 1,400 tickets for the game.

I guess all things considered, they probably ended up just about getting more than they would have with a full ground at normal prices, but still, a bit of a missed opportunity.

Swindon have upped Adult prices to £35 for the visit of Man City's second string. As bad as paying for meaningless preseason friendlies. Gouging fans to pay inflated player salaries.

Fan loyalty means little these days.

was actually Shots v Oxford January 1987, Oxford were in the top flight then, a 300% price hike got them a crowd of 1966.

So what youre saying is apart from the opponents, the price and the attendance, I was bang on. I'll take that as a win.

IIRC, Aldershot won.

Never saw us win at the Rec. Saw a thoroughly undeserved draw in 89 courtesy of an injury time penality that was the very textbook definition of dodgy, having spent the preceding 90 minutes being gobbed at by the Shits and then was one of the few in attendance for our last ever competative fixture against them, an utterly shambolic 3-1 defeat in the Mickey Mouse Cup which included a stunning Martin Hicks diving header from 15 yds into his own net.

Those were the days!!!!!

One of my earliest games at EP was v the Shots…early seventies….it was highly charged

Trevor scored an absolute stunner from about 30yds, wide out near the touchline in that one, another Mickey Mouse Cup game. I think we beat them again, 3-1 in the league about a month later as well. Mick Tait scored with an overhead kick.
