If you could attend 1 game you missed...

by Hendo » 23 Feb 2022 11:47

...which one would it be?

I think I have been to the majority of Reading's most important game over the last couple of decades, but I think the one I really regret not going to is Liverpool (a) in the cup. I was never going to be able to go, due to being at uni, it being on a Tuesday night and there being loads of snow in the NW that day, but I would've loved to have been there.

Feeling a bit nostalgic this morning, clearly :)

Either last night, or Leicester away in 2006.

Oh yeah Southampton (a) and West Ham (a) would've been amazing - more games which I missed due to being at uni.

I missed Leicester away in 06 due to my selfish unborn daughter deciding to give everyone a scare. Ticket just sat there looking at me in the hospital.

Southampton away, although a fair trek for me, but I'd have still loved it. Leicester away in 06 would be another one.

I'd have wanted to go to Forest at home as well to seal the title back in 2012.

Obviously Leicester away we knew what was coming, it was just a matter of time, so Southampton away would have been better. I was at Brentford when we went up and that was incredible.

Derby 2006. Had tickets but came down with a really bad bout of flu and could barely get out of bed for the day.

The one where Friday scored that wondergoal.

Or when we beat Liverpool at Anfield.

I reckon that is easily the best away day I will ever have, all a bit of a blur now but it was incredible. Remember looking up at the end of the game to see some of our supporters climbing the camera gantry and nearly falling off.

Something of a leftfield choice, but simply because it's something that doesn't happen very often I was sorry to miss the abandoned league cup clash against Bury in 1995. Heavy rain at half time forced the abandonment of the fixture, with the Royals 2-0 down at the time.

Maybe I'm just a miserable old sod but I think I'd have enjoyed watched the away fans getting soaked from the comfort of the dry South Bank, and enjoying a reprieve at the mercy of the weather gods (and of course more time in the pub post match)

Probably Leicester 1-1 Reading, at the time I went to games with my Dad and his friend and we were thinking about going but ended up deciding against it.

Shoutout to Reading 5-0 Millwall, my parents had recently divorced and I think my mum was trying to compete with my dad who took us on a fun caravan holiday but booked it during that game, got constantly reminded about missing that one.

That's the first game I took my nephew to. IiRC, the away fans were both in the main stand.

I was in the Tilehurst End and got a proper soaking. They opened up the South Bank for us but it was too little to late lol. Went to the rearranged game too.

Yeah Leicester for me too.

I was so lucky to attend the West Ham and the Southampton games, literally in a space of a week - magical times. Southampton has to be the most amazing - still get googsebumps now watching that back on Youtube. 40 something man, just out of refereeing, running down the stairs to join a mass bundle, and no, i am not Mike Dean.
