windermereROYAL losing 1-0 after 35 minutes of the season and we are down..jeeezus.

It’s far more concerning that yet again we have stacks of injuries. No losing in our first game is not a disaster but we cannot afford so many injuries all of the time.

As concerning as the injuries is the disorganised shape and absent midfield

You can maybe manage the injuries if you're well organised and have a solid plan.

Can’t comment on how we are playing because I don’t have a feed but did watch last week’s game and was surprised at how deep we were and how few options there were going forward.

We've almost permanently got 8 players in our defensive third.

Have to address the appalling goals against record from last season, brick by brick I guess.

Like last week then. Is anyone playing well?

Playing in our defensive third won't do that. It'll just be pressure pressure pressure and eventually it tells.

Er...

Probably just Yiadom and Holmes, although Ince, Hoilett, Meite, Lumely and McIntyre have been ok.
Just to give you a taste on pass numbers
Lumley - 10
NGW - 5
McIntyre - 24
Holmes - 22
Yiadom - 19
Hoilett - 16
Ejaria - 8
Hendrick - 16
Fornah - 13
Ince - 7
Meite - 5

And that's overselling Fornah's involvement and underselling Ince and Meite's

Should be playing Ejaria at DM. He's won 2 or 3 good interceptions and the odd tackle and done the square root of oxf*rd all going forward.

Need to switch to a back Four. Get Yiadom free to do what he does best, rampage forward. Release Hoilett forward. Push out Fornah and Hendrick and defend further forward. Can't do it with just Ince, Ejaria and Meite in their half.

Simple question.
Why is it in every match we always have to ‘weather the storm’ for the first twenty minutes or so?

Why don’t we ever create the storm and make the opposition weather it?

Yep we must defend further forward. It’s a concern that we are defending so deep. It sets a negative mindset and invites the opposition on.

Yeah, this is pretty much how I was expecting this to go. Look very much like a collection of players that have yet to build a 'team' - Some individual quality but a lack of decent player interaction. Static defending, misplaced passing, poor support when attacking. Yet, still in the game and could easily grab a goal.

Fans just need a bit of patience at this stage. There's no magic combination of players and tactics that are going to turn strangers into an effective footballing unit.

No club does. We are no different and probably more patient than many fan bases.

Ejaria delivers like the footballing equivalent of a Pyramid Scheme.

You can see it on the pitch though - players making good movement and decent touches, then passing into open space as they don't instinctively know what runs their teammates are making. Then when defending, players are afraid of leaving their 'zones' as they don't trust that someone will come in to cover. It's just going to take time.

Problem with that is that there are only three outfield players who weren't here last season. There's nothing unusual about the number of new players we have playing. And all three of them have been available for multiple pre-season games.
