Winston Biscuit So had Pisa won the Serie B play off final last year (as they had a clause to buy Puscas) we may well have not got this points deduction?

Quite possibly yes.

right, I need to go back and watch a video of the extra time played in that final to see who was at fault for conceding the last 2 goals then we will have our escape goat!!

edit - 1:58 seconds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkAjRanoR-k

Elm Park Kid Having read Bowen's statement - I do think the EFL need to reconsider the rules involved with the transfer embargo. Not being able to pick up a youngster for a few hundred K, but being able to offer Andy Carroll a contract is pretty ridiculous. There needs to be a bit more flexibility.

Or maybe we shouldn't have put ourself in the position of having completely trashed the league rules and getting sanctioned.

Or if Bowen hadn't be sacked as manager and been allowed to sell Moore 3 seasons ago.

Or if we sold more hot dogs? Or if the stay away fans had not stayed away?

Bowen's statement makes it quite clear that not being able to shift players was the reason.

Lose track with the timelines but this was agreed before Bowen came back wasn’t it? Hence ince calling it a historical thing I guess

Would be interesting to know if we ever did have the opportunity to sell someone and turned it down mind you. Was very little noise on tbe transfer window about anyone

The EFL business plan dictated to us we had to sell players but extremely limited to who we could bring in due to the EFL enforced embargo.
I can see why we didn't sell anyone tbh and chanced it, we had already scraped the barrel with the free agents / trialists we could afford due to the wage limits that were enforced by the........ EFL business plan. Full circle.

Puscas and Joao were the only players linked with a sale i think.

There were rumours in January that there were Premier League teams interested in Thomas Ince - could have sold him as he's not been the same since.

I guess with being reliant on selling players it is all about if any team wants to buy them, if Reading wants to accept the offer (perhaps knowing they will be hard to replace or the offer is poor), if the player wants to leave (possibly on a lesser package/relocating family etc).

Too many ifs, buts and maybes.

Thing is, at the start of the season, most people would have put Joao down as the man to do the business in front of goal. I can understand the club's unwillingness to sell him considering we'd have been replacing him with Conor Wickham. We did our best to shift Puscas. Of the other big 3, Moore, Meite and Ejaria, they've all been permacrocks.

Must say, there seems to be a bit of a dig at the likes of Derby in the EFL statement with the "We'd like to thank Reading for being honest and transparent" line.

A dig at Derby but they've punished us harder than them now.

Had we taken 12pts last season, we'd be where Derby are now.

I had forgotten about that film of Ian Royal in his younger day before he became a bitter and twisted old chap.

At last they’ve finally confirmed a 6 point deduction for failing to keep to the agreed business plan (seems the club failed to sell an asset to the owner in time and failed to make a profit on selling players  )

Full story in the Chronic (so is actually readable rather than what you’d get in the EP)

At the moment it’s not all doom and gloom on the field it’s still in our hands and if these penalties stop out of control spending and at the same time keep our club afloat then what can you do . Back the boys

Silly Q but will ask it anyway.

Reading the blurb on the website it seems like we have behaved very well indeed and there was literally nothing else we could have done, yet we're still hit with 6points.

So why did we bother at all as soon as it became clear we'd never manage it? Would it be more than 6 if we hadn't tried? Or was it 6+/- a further 6?

They would have hit us with the 6 suspended from last season, and then started a NEW investigation which would likely lead to further sanctions later on. Pretty much what happened to Wigan a couple of weeks ago - they got a 3 point deduction, but are now being investigated again, whcih could lead to further deductions next season.
