No to “some bloke with a Reading connection”.

Yes to Duff, Cowley, Liam Manning, Darrell Clarke, or Dave Challinor, someone up and coming with recent success at a lower level. Obviously this depends on our ability to pay the necessary compensation - but Cowley would be a good option in any case.

Foreigners would be just as good, but I don’t really have much knowledge of who is doing well in Serie B or Ligue 2. Maybe someone like Lieberknecht. Suspect Will Still is beyond our means!

If we stay up Nathan Jones is the outstanding candidate and one I’d really hope we would make a move for. Plays an excellent brand of football, has outperformed his budget twice at Luton and has shown his eye in the transfer market.

Cowley, Jones etc would be great appointments but knowing Dai and Dayong Pang we'll hire another nobody like Steve Kean.

I've watched Exeter city a lot since moving to Devon, they are a decent club, very reminiscent of Elm Park's Biscuitmen. Matt Taylor had them playing attractively on very limited budgets and got them promoted from his experiences playing and managing in league 2 to league 1
I recognise that he has not been tearing up trees and world beating for Rotheram in the championship, but he has current and recent experience of where we are, where we may soon find ourselves! We need to be realistic in our ambitions, but not limited, so I'd consider options like him too!

Yeah but can we all agree that once he inevitably takes us all from L1 to the Prem in successive seasons, that we all boo him to the point of getting sacked by November of that year? Cheers.

A few jewels floating around in the lower leagues but that`s not how we do things is it?

But leaves Luton and really can't hack it. Has 12 wins from 54 games not at Luton..... But did play for Badajoz... so... that should really be the deciding factor in hiring him.

So still an upgrade?

Here's a name completely from left field that will probably draw a heap of derision my way.

Stuart Kettlewell.

Won the Scottish academy league with Ross County, had a decent enough record when given the Ross County job and has absolutely turned Motherwell around this season since getting the job playing decent, attacking football.

The one downside being he has zero experience in English football, though.

I would be happy with Jones but hoping that Hunt does really well and is given the chance next season. I have always liked Chris Hughton but I think he’s manager of Ghana now.

What's so good about the Cowley's? Think League Two and below is their level.

PATRIQT
Elm Park Kid Bit surprised that they didn't ask McDermott to interim until the end of the season. He's still involved with the club, is in a good place at the moment, I guess would inspire some of the players to be managed by someone who actually has experience and track record of success.

Me too. I'd love him back in the summer. The ideal man to build a new squad, bring them together, and bring in some kids - but his battle with alcoholism might be why that wont happen

He's been sober 8 years I believe.

genome No chance Nathan Jones comes here by the way, he was a bit arrogant while Southampton manager so I can't imagine his ego will want to go from the Premier League to League One within a year

My understanding is that it is a done deal IF we stay up.

As far as I'm aware they were quite unfairly dismissed by Huddersfield only a few days after ensuring their survival. Danny prefers control of transfers, scouting, personnel etc which is something Huddersfield weren't too keen on. Started brightly at Pompey but had a similar decline to what we're more used to of late.

I'd opt for them in League One, personally. Would definitely be a gamble.

Would like Nathan Jones. Proven he can do it on a budget.

I get that he had a horrible time at Stoke, would understand supporters having reservations. Just think he has the right sort of personality to bring about a change in mentality amongst the players.
