Six arrested after Wigan game

Six people have been arrested after fights involving supporters broke out in a car park following a football match.

The violent disorder started after Reading's home Championship fixture against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Scuffles broke out near to the KFC fast-food restaurant in the Reading Gate Retail Park off the A33.

Those arrested ranged from teenage boys to men aged from 13 to 23. They were all held on suspicion of affray.

All six have since been released on bail while the investigation continues.

The match saw Wigan Athletic relegated from the Championship after Reading drew 1-1 in injury time.

Witnesses and anyone with mobile phone or dashcam footage are urged to contact the force.

I’ve seen the videos at the start a Reading fan gets huge whack on the side of his head and hits the deck. He gets up and has a go back at what I assume are Wigan fans a few punches are thrown some verbal exchanges and it’s over in less than a minute. Mostly handbags. I’ve seen far worse on a Saturday night in town.

I saw this. It all kicked off as my son and his mate were climbing on a barrier and this moody Wigan fan had a pop at them and got a load of verbal from some lads behind us in the queue and then it kicked off. My son said it was the highlight of his day.

I saw a couple of the fights. Not surprised it kicked off tbh. Not that I condone it. Won't change the result. I thought the Wigan lot started it mind you.

I don't think it's the answer but you'll see scenes like this if it's a big game. We also relegated them 6 years back here too and there were a few issues after.

You obviously weren't there.

There was no trouble in Club 1871. The nearest thing to trouble was when Wigan scored about 20 Wigan kids ran across about 20 rows of empty seats giving it the big un and a few kids in 1871 reciprocated. The extend of any "trouble" was a white plastic flagstick being tossed to and fro.

The fight was not in or adjacent to Club 1871.

Give it a rest will ya!
