Brogue Usual Twitter meltdown without actually thinking . 7k has been raised, that’s all. We don’t know how many staff there are, but it is believed to be more than 200, but less than 500. If the 7k was split between all staff - as per the requests from the Twitter knob heads it would be £35 each if 200 staff, or £14 each if 500 :| hardly going to make a difference to them is it? Putting on a party seems like a nice idea and with 7k I reckon they could put on something quite nice. You’d like to think the club could offer the conference centre/ directors boxes as the venue free of charge. 7k would go quite far on booze and food.

If I were a member of staff and I was given an option of £14 or a party I’d probably choose a party tbf

Aside from the players and coaches etc. I stupidly thought they’d only have around 100 salaried staff. I’m shocked that the figure could be up to 500.

I suspect those numbers are going to be fairly blurry between actual perm full time salaried staff, and various degrees of fixed term, part time, zero hours contracts and temp and contractors etc

Indeed. 2020 we had 500 staff. But we have a lot less now, however the biggest drop in numbers is match day staff and 2021 (which is the year the 2022 accounts are reported on) was a year still affected by covid. So it’s very tricky to get a representative figure today. Match day staff will be up but then we may have cut our cloth after relegation. But ultimately it’s all still very small numbers really when we are talking about 7k split between either 500 staff or 250 staff £35 or £14, meh . The fundraising would have needed to have raised hundreds of thousands to cover the wages of the unpaid staff. So the whole thing was silly in the first place. But assuming the staff get paid in full this month star had a choice - split the money 250 ways or choosing to go the path they have, which is to put on a Christmas party for all. The staff apparently haven’t had a Christmas party in 3 years. I dunno perhaps they have made the wrong call. I just don’t see it being the massive thing that Twitter are making it out to be.

Matchday staff work about 30 days a year.

Quite a few are probably temps paid by agency, not on staff contracts paid directly by the club.

They should of course be paid, and even a small gap from missed pay can make a difference to people, but, it's hardly the same thing.

Just dividing the total by total employees when that includes players who aren't included, and matchday staff who may or may not be paid by the club and did about 4 day's work for the period, rather than 20 odd, is rather daft.

This thread is showing why I didn't contribute. Such a complicated matter. I think the only correct approach is to set up an interest free payday loan for staff until Dai leaves, and allow staff to get in touch if they need it. Given the figures involved, a party when he goes may be a better use than a £20 bonus per head. Or target a bonus at the lowest paid permissions employees.

May as well invest the money in Golden Gamble tickets then the money goes to the club/to charity and you've a chance to win another £300-£400 or a signed football

As I said at the time, given the money wasn't going to be able to be given to the staff immediately and it had already been confirmed that the wages would be paid in full on the Tuesday this always seemed like a pointless exercise, still I'm sure a lot of folks felt very good about themselves for a minute or two

The problem with anything they do other than wage related is that should we actually need to raise money to pay wages they will have put off a significant number of people who feel that the money was misappropriated this time and so will be reluctant to pay again.

What was going to be the mechanics of this donation anyway?

The club hand over the bank details of all their employees to STAR? I think not.

STAR just give Reading Football Club the money and ask them to distribute it? How would STAR verify the club actually gave it to employees in line with the wishes of the people who donated?

Should it have been pro-rated so that those earning more money and missed out on more pay got more money, or was it going to be the same figure for everyone? Does a part-time hospitality matchday worker who is a local teenager need the same amount as a full-time member of staff who has a mortgage to pay?

if you accept charitable donations you become a trustee of that money, and become legally responsible for making sure the money is used as intended by the donors. Donors can sue you if you don't use it as intended as advertised when the donation was made. If i was STAR i'd try my hardest to just refund the donations and just put it down to a nice idea but not workable in practise.

Absolutely this

It was an unworkably sh*t idea in the first place, just refund it

I'm not involved in this at all but please note STAR are not the originators of the fundraiser.

There are people from STAR supporting the person that set it up with engaging with the club and helping them on distribution options on the lines of what he put in the crowdfunder tool.

It's amusing how SBWD lurch from excellent to incompetent and back again so quickly.

Well done.

Great use of funds that.

Bit shocked the organisers haven't put themselves in the image given how much they have enjoyed the limelight.

If you're referring to the staff fundraiser thing, that's absolutely nothing to do with Sell Before We Dai :?.

If not, what misstep has there been recently :|

Thank you
