If The Worst Happens - The Phoenix Club

by On Strings » 26 Jun 2023 16:49

Would you want one?
What would we call it?
Realistically where would we play?
Would you help fund getting it off the ground?
Are #SellBeforeWeDai considering it as a possibility and looking into it?
Would you want to retain the blue and white hoops image or opt for a change in colours?

nobody from HNA was invited

Let's make another thread about the clubs demise! We just don't have enough of them.

Why not discuss all aspects of what may happen? The club is facing the biggest threat to it's existence. At least with the Maxwell scare, anyone who wanted to travel to Didcot would have had part (not much in Reading's favour, it must be said) of a club to support.
Your derogatory remarks on a lot of new topics is frankly boring.

Step 1 - Get rid of our dump of a stadium and find a small one with character. Rename it the Biscuit Tin.

I highly doubt the Didcot part would have even happened.

Maxwell would probably have just sold Elm Park, and pocketted the money.

No decent football pitches in the vicinity of Reading centre tbh. Or anything that could made into one. All flats now isn’t it?

Can’t think of any land that could be used any closer to the centre than the SCL is now

How? Barely any parking, a brand new leisure centre, surrounded by busy roads

Unless your total ambition is a couple of hundred inside the running track stadium

Eh? How many people do you reckon will be turning up to watch us play Sunday league football? And it’s on the 17 bus route and 20 minute walk from earley station. And there is plenty of room on the other side of seats to put some temporary stands up. Think Withdean stadium

When afc Wimbledon reformed they played at Kingsmeadow in Kingston on Thames which had a capacity of 1000. Palmer park capacity is 780 seats. You could even just have standing around the other three sides. Would be plenty big enough for our needs when starting out

Yeah think I’d rather hope someone buys off Dai if that’s the best that can be offered! Would say zero chance of it happening anyway after they spent so much on the leisure centre there

Oh were you thinking we would rise from the ashes and just build a shiny new stadium?

Nope just have somewhere that you could maybe grow beyond the 8th tier of football in

Tbh they’d be better sharing with Maidenhead

Anything but AFC Reading, ground share with Bracknell at first or somewhere else with a 3G pitch.

You are familiar with the withdean stadium yeah? Palmer park is probably bigger and better than that before Brighton started using the withdean when they were in the football league

Christ i remember going there in the cnuting rain when Zamora scored hat trick against us and the stewards were handing us a paper towel each to dry the seat.

And anyway if we did nothing to palmer park the seating capacity alone would put us 11th in the attendance league in conference south. it would give us a few years to find somewhere more suitable if we progressed up the leagues.

Yep but doubt Brighton council spent 20m doing the place up just before the football team moved in

And parking horrendous there as it is. Can’t imagine for one minute it’d be considered

Purchase Broad Street, West Street & Friar Street from RBC. Build a new stadium, modelled on the Bombonera, in the place of the shops that are located between these streets.
