MATCHWATCH : Southampton (h)

by Sutekh » 22 Jul 2023 12:37

OK here's the matchwatch thread for the Southampton game this afternoon (3pm at the Mad Stad)

It'll be interesting to see how many of the new signings this week get a run out and for how long. Not expecting Savage junior to be involved but hey, in this day and age in a friendly who knows.

Expecting Bouzanis to start in goal but perm any other 10 you like to go alongside him. Expecting a similar modus operandi to last week with a fairly string starting XI (that would probably form the basis of the first league XI) lasting for at least an hour then the subs will start up, think I'd expect fewer youngsters and triallists being involved so therefore a stonger subs bench!

Though I'd like them involved, even if it's to wave at people to show they're still alive, I think Ejaria and Carroll will both be absent and Yiadom possibly too after rumours of various injuries and surgeries etc.

As for Soton, well they'll have the vastly better squad but unless you're a Soton fan you probably couldn't give a xxxx about who they have left at the club though Alex McCarthy will more than likely get some game time. Remains to be seen whether James Ward-Prowse and Romeo Lavia will be involved given the Saints are probably looking to sell them before the season begins.

Coverage will be provided by BBC Berks for those with access to a radio and/or the internet. I think RoyalTV are providing televisual coverage too for £5.

Apparently Shopido is starting. Interest must be genuine to play to PSFs, even if he may not be 1st choice.

Rushesha a young midfielder released by Swansea

Seemed to be highly rated but has had 2 ACLs before the age of 20…

Brogue *Tweet*

So, it looks like:
Bouzanis
Abrefa - Holmes - McIntyre - NGW
Senga - Rushesha
Azeez - _____ - Knibbs
Ehib - Smith

No Mbengue or Wing; I imagine both will play on Tuesday. Interesting no Hutchinson in the squad; he might be saved for Tuesday too.

Carroll, Yiadom, Ejaria, Wing, Hutchinson, Savage and Mbengue all NOT involved.

Rushesha is starting so he must be of real interest to the club, however Adirenen and Amos are not involved so presume the club has passed on signing them.

Interesting to see how Ehib and Smith combine.

He's 21 on Monday, born in Zimbabwe but capped at Welsh U17 level.

Missed 20/21 with cruciate ligament injury, he was a right back when at Swansea.

Forest Gump What is the score then?
And who scored

1-2 Knibbs

Missed the first 25 minutes, but Senga looking good. Abrefa, Azeez and NGW breaking well but missing the final ball/shot.

Defence getting not much protection and looking a bit easily unlocked.

Not convinced by the trialist.

Pretty sure the Royals TV commo can't tell the difference between Senga and Rashesha, which given there's a good foot height difference, and completely different haircut, that's Dellor levels of impressive.
