MATCHWATCH : QPR

by Sutekh » 25 Jul 2023 09:57

Providing a matchwatch thread on this preseason friendly solely because there is live coverage on RoyalTV (£5) and therefore some of you lot will be watching it. It kicks off at 1pm at Bearwood and is behind closed doors.

Would expect to see a more stable squad selection with less of the "everyone getting minutes" attitude and maybe even the first sightings of the new "season" for Yiadom and Carroll depending where they are in their injury recovery.

Unless they've somehow managed to get crocked I'd certainly expect to see Mr Savage and Mr Wing get their "debuts" in this one.

Rushesha definitely seems to be in their thoughts. 4th game he has played isn’t it?

Dunno where Amos has disappeared to and bit of a shame no Carroll or Yiadom

Understandably if a little worryingly given we only have today and the Swansea game left before the season starts, the team is made up of youth and triallists. Imagine Selles is trying to get a feel for which young players could be ready.

Ryan could be interesting if he is the Irish full back who went to Italy, have to think Rushesha and Djorkaeff have this last chance to show they are worth a deal.

11 subs so imagine, we'll see a completely different side in the 2nd half which is more "first team" but with more likely in the door in the next few days, hard to get a real gauge on things.

LOL.

So much for getting the first team ready.

Looking forwards to Selles stealing a line from Bodgers and saying we've finished pre-season 7 games after the season started.

Bit of a surprising squad selection, just the three triallists.

John Ryan - presuming he's the 20 year old young Irish player most recently in Italy with Sassuolo
Oan Djorkaeff - Youri's son last seen playing in Switzerland at Rapperswil-Jona. He's 26 so not exactly a youngster any more.
Tivonge Rushesha - 20 year old full back/midfielder released by Swansea

Amos and Shodipo not involved at all so the club have presumably already made a decision on them and are just looking at the above triallists now.

Savage on bench but no sign of Wing (what's the betting he's injured?).

Wing isn’t injured but have to remember he hasn’t had a club to train with. Said he’d kept himself fit but it’s not the same as a proper preseason - reckon he’s prob just a bit undercooked

Contrast to Savage who has done preseason with utd

Suprised no Shodipo

Wing will not have had much pre-season as he has been without a club and he only joined on Friday, so not surprised he isn't involved today.

With regards to Amos and Shodipo, decisions may have been made one way or the other and could also be partly due to the fact that they both left QPR this summer. At the moment, as they haven't signed anywhere they are due to be paid by QPR in July, so not sure if they would be allowed to play against them unless they have signed a contract.

Bored so bought the stream

Most interesting thing is watching players who aren’t involved. Looks like Dean, Carroll, Hutch and Ejaria there

A little surprised we haven't put Wing on the bench to give him 10-20 minutes towards the end of the game. That said, it might benefit him to be doing fitness training instead of playing today.

Why would QPR still be paying Amos and Shodipo if they've released them?

CBC there as well

1-0 QPR. Done alright so far, but goal was a bit lame. Carson out of position, free cross, someone outjunped Dorsett and the trialist had lost track of Dykes who put it away

Any player released by a club has to be paid in July by their former club if they have not signed a deal with a new club - so for example, we will have to pay Joao and Moore if they don't sign for a new club in the next week.

Really? That practice doesn't happen in the real world! Presume it's only for the one month and not until such time that they do find a new club or choose to retire.

Seems odd, given they're no longer under contract. I assume that's only a single month thing?

Also seems they're playing three 30 minute periods today instead of two 45 minute halves.
