Or (most optimisically) he's on the verge of selling and doesn't want to put in more money than is absolutely necessary.

Yes but paying the essentials is absolutely necessary.

Sutekh All recognised by Selles who says the club isn't ready and needs new faces and there are things that have been lined up but how long can they be held? Mr Dai has assured tax bill will be paid but no specifics as to when!

I do find it a bit strange that the theory is that it's hard to get money out of China. Has some financial/accounting rules in China differed in the last 12 months that has now made it harder than say, 3 months ago?

We had no issues paying the tax bill previously. Just seems like it's a case of either Dai has lost interest, has lost his money or both.

Wasn't the latest winding up order the 3rd or 4th under Dai for non-payment of tax?

Ascotexgunner Lumley is still a free agent.

We can't sign anyone, so who cares.

Thought we could sign free transfers?

Anyway Lumley said he doesn't want to come back.

Don’t think we can sign anyone much atm. Those loans that were lined up didn’t happen (Fiorini and Stansfield). Get the feeling Rushesha would have signed by now as well

Hound The 3 window embargo in itself isn’t an awful thing, could live with that

Certainly don’t need more points penalties

Another 3 transfer embargos pretty much confines us to the next 3 seasons in league one or worse. As it means another 12-18 months without buying players

Almost no one in L1 buys players,it's not required for promotion.

Just look at Wing and Savage.

Yeah. The bonus we have is that for other reasons Reading is quite an attractive destination. Also we should still have the capacity to pay a decent wage and that’s what will get the good freebies in

This - the main impact will be the inabilty to pay a loan fee in that it may shut us out of some top loan talent but as said before even that isn't a given esp if a club want someone to get minutes.

We have (hopefully) brought in Wing and Savage on frees who should be top quality in this division and there is still a lot of talent available out there - Savage was under contract at United as well and we've got him without a fee by loading the deal with sell ons etc.

If we can go into windows with a plan, and knowing we won't hit embargo issues, we can absolutely build a promotion side without paying a fee - it is just highly unlikely to be this year.

look at teams like Coventry and Luton in recent seasons. Haven't needed to break the bank to get promotion winning teams together. So, while money should help, it still needs a proper plan and a good manager/coach to get the best out of the resources you have.

Playoffs are possible on a modest budgets, but Championship top 2 have basically all had parachute payments or been historically bigger clubs recently. Leeds, Sheffield United and Norwich did it, but I'd say they're all bigger than us.

tbf I was talking League 1 to Championship, but totally accept the Championship picture is skewed by PP (though West Brom, Watford, Norwich all struggled relatively last season)

AthleticoSpizz But yes, we really need Lumley back
Shame he probably needs a championship level salary which is paid on in full and on time each month.... might rule out a return.

Thankyou Brogue, your sources seem have developed a pretty good reputation for accuracy this close season, hoping they're on the money again with this one - and therefore that then it's not too late to resurrect deals and get a small positive feel around the place before Saturday.

Have they anything to say on the suggested take-over/investment?
