WestYorksRoyal Am I the only one who doesn't feel too strongly about the record? If we finish the season well and get taken over, I'll be ecstatic and I really won't care if Leicester take our record.

Similarly in a dire 2023, it didn't keep me warm thinking "well at least Burnley didn't beat out record".

Records are there to be broken, dominant teams relegated from the PL seems normal now. It's a question of when, not if.

It's a great record to have but outside of us most people are blissfully unaware of it - hence why we hardly ever come up in conversations about the greatest Championship side.

We've had it for nearly 20 years and if it gets broken by a squad, that is essentially a mid-table PL side (they should not have got relegated last year) playing for a club that were PL Champions what 8 years ago?, then I'm comfortable with that - life moves on and we have bigger fish to fry.

This is the first season where the gap caused by the PL money has really shone through - the relegated sides all in the top 3 and between 14 and 26 points clear of 5th - Ipswich having an incredible season just to keep them honest - if this continues then if Leicester don't take the record, it will only be a matter of time before someone else does. Key will be what happens once they are up and/or confirmed as Champions.

It's bad enough that the PL has turned into an annual procession of the rest following the big franchises.
Looks for all the world like it's going to ruin  the Champ, turning it permanently into a competition to finish fourth.

So 13 games remaining and a possible total of 117 points still achievable.

To retain the record outright, we need Leicester to drop at least 12 points, meaning they gain no more than 27 points from a possible 39.

27 Points can be achieved with either of the following.
9 wins, 0 draws, (4 defeats)
8 wins, 3 draws, (2 defeats)

In all likelihood, we are going to need them to drop points in at least 5 games from the 13 remaining because i don't see them getting beat 4 times. Let's hope it starts on Friday at Leeds.

I still love the annual sweat for this record. It always looks so doable but I don’t think any team has got to within 4 games of it.

But, as mentioned above we are in a whole new era now. I’d be surprised if it lasts another 5 years.

Saw some wage bill stats recently. Leicester’s annual wage bill is 3 times that of Cardiff’s. And Cardiff are the 5th highest payers in the Championship.

It's easy to keep competing before you get promotion or win the title - it's afterwards where it makes a difference. It's inevitable to relax that little bit once everything's confirmed.

Well then the fact that there are 4 very high quality teams this year will really help Leicester.

By the same token, it makes it that much harder to get 3 points off those sides.

They've got to travel to Leeds on Friday night. That's probably their toughest game on paper until the end of the season.

A Leeds team that have 12 wins and 4 draws from 16 home games.

Of course, it isn't just the obvious games that could cause problems - not sure anyone would have had Boro down for an away win on Saturday.

We only took 24 (out of 39) points from our last 13 games. Near as damn it 1.85 points per game. Leicester need a smidge over 2.2 points per game to beat it.

It's going to be close.

If you know of a way of getting 52 points out of 13 games, please pass on to our current team, would put us right in contention for play-offs :D

It's no surprise we have the pts record when we were getting 4pts for a win.

Ha, no idea why I typed 52! Now corrected.

Up to now they've been accumulating 2.36 points per game. Leeds, in second, 2.09 points.

Just for context, Man City and Liverpool's 98 and 97 totals from 2018-19, were 2.58 and 2.55 points per game respectively, as they each pushed each other right to the end.

Admittedly Leeds, Ipswich and Southampton will probably push them all the way, but if Leicester beat Leeds tomorrow night and open the gap to 12 points, we might start to seem them take their foot off the pedal.

OTOH I think Leicester’s run-in is pretty difficult.

Didn't see that coming. Leicester should have been 3-0 up and had a perfectly good goal disallowed.

Absolute robbery, but I’m delighted.
