There is no point in criticising the management.

Only a public online witch hunt of those players responsible will turn things around. Feel free to add names below.

It goes without saying that no rational thinking would be anything other than Selles in but he must burden some of the blame today.

He's got it completely wrong. His approach is wrong. But you're completely right he's had 3 games and we shouldn't be making any rush judgements for another 7 or 8.

He wasn't a very good appointment, but no one fails in less than half a dozen games.

He is impressing me.

We could easily have drawn v Peterborough, only conceding one unlucky goal. Look where Boro are now (2nd after WWW) and they scored 4 goals in their two other wins.

The win at Millwall was amazing.

We looked like we were going to do well v Port Vale, up until the Carroll miss.
Yes we lost, (to another freak goal) and yes the players let down the manager.

But then this patched together, not yet fit, rapidly-changing 11, won 1-0 tonight after six months of misery

0-1
4-0
0-1
1-0

5-2 and two clean sheets and we have barely warmed up.

There are a lot of plusses. The Academy lads are showing class, and (hopefully) the manager won't rush to play those guys (definitely good enough when their head is right) who have forgotten how to win.

One negative for me is Carroll. He looked overweight and in party shape v Port Vale. I worry that he's just "doing another year" so he is away from home... IF we can get his head back, play to his strengths, get him to shed those extra pounds, he could score a lot of goals as a sixtieth minute sub.

The kids can have their sixty or so, then the big lad is unleashed

I'm close to the end with him.
I said November, and I'm seeing no improvement. ....in fact it's getting worse. But there's still time but so far he seems
devoid of tactics, not getting the best out of players, isolating experience, bonkers team selections and as nice a bloke as the is, he is looking out of his depth.
People keep droning on about being dealt a bad hand, this squad should be doing better and isolating the experience hasn't helped. Some of these players look lost. WTF was Wing doing playing so wide at times yesterday? He is effective in the middle. Why are we just hoofing it down the channels to chase or passing it round the back for 5 minutes only for the keeper to hoof it.
Let's see what happens at Northampton, a team we really should be beating.

People seem to be focusing in on his tactical failings, of which there have been several, but not giving credit for his squad development.

We have a talented squad that should be doing better, but he has played a big part in creating this. Camara, Ehibhatiomhan and Azeez were on the fringes last year so were likely in line to play a role in L1. But so many managers would not have given opportunities to Vickers, Carson, Abbey, Binden, Rushesa and Craig. And now one of the reasons people say we should be doing better is because of the talent we have in Vickers, Abbey and Binden among others.

It's so easy to imagine a manager like Wilder or Wellens sticking with the likes of Holmes and Carroll.

So by showcasing the talent in the squad and our ability to scout and develop youngsters, which off the pitch will be a massive selling point to investors, he has bought himself a hell of a lot of time.

I think people tend to overlook how erratic the form of younger players can be.

Even with experienced pros around them, they often break into the team, show a bit promise, then fade when the enthusiasm of just playing drops.

They are still learning the differences between academy play and playing for the first team, and they are having to do it collectively.

That's why no one is really blaming the players. Even Azeez, who has been around the first team a season or so is only getting a bit of frustration with people hoping he'd have kicked on by now.

But that scenario of a very young squad has to be managed well.

Selles is doing some very good work. He's bringing through young talent and trusting quality but inexperienced young players. He's making use of his squad and bench proactively. He's adjusting his strategy and varying combinations. He's fostering a positive and supportive environment.

But he's also making some poor selection choices, naturally fluffing some sub choices (can't get them all right) not quite got the shape / approach of the team right, and most importantly he's not picking up results enough when they are there for the taking.

Right now its early days. Get a little run going, and all is good. Continue to stumble and there's only so long he can last before we're back in 'might as well roll the dice' territory.

Not having seen Reading play this season your results seem bizarre. Winning 0-4 at Millwall and 0-9 at Exeter but dropping so many points elsewhere. Is Mr Selles tinkering too much or is there another explanation?

Maybe the opposition intensity is a bit lower in cup games, even if Millwall had a strong XI. Perhaps it is us struggling under extra pressure and expectation in the league, especially away (our home record is 6th in the table so no issues there). Perhaps they feel the weight of our dire away record, even if most of it came under a different team. Let's not forget the weight of the off field situation, uncertainty about being paid, losing points and no guarantee of away day accommodation, which will get to you more in the pressure of the league. So I would say it's mainly psychological.

As for tinkering and rotation, it will partly be to protect young players who don't have experience to playing twice a week and racking up 50 appearances in a season. But also, who knows our best XI? Ask 5 different fans and you probably get 5 different answers.

The squad are talented but they are also incredibly inexperienced, and whilst I am excited by what this squad could do, if they get the proper opportunity, it is also fair to say the make-up of the squad would have been quite different if we weren't in the position we find ourselves with regards to ownership.

Add to that that some members of the squad didn't arrive to late in the window, some who arrived earlier had to hang around not knowing if or when they were going to play and finally that the entire playing squad/coaches do not know if a) they are going to get paid on time b) if the points they earn are going to get taken away or even c) if the club is going to be sold or go into administration/liquidation then it is a tough working environment for everyone to then perform to the best of their ability.

The fact we are doing "ok" is pretty impressive to my mind at the moment - yes there needs to be improvements and I am sure they are working on that but honestly, until the situation around the club is improved then it is going to be a very hard environment to improve things consistently.

Sadly, it is close to impossible to separate performance on the pitch with the shitshow off it and the fact that Selles has created a culture in the playing squad where that is nearly happening is to be applauded, even if you accept improvements need to come. The real test will come if and when we are able to draw a line under the current ownership.

Simply, we need to stay in L1 this season, with clear improvement seen over the season and hopefully build further over the next year or two with solid ownership.

Not enough games played to judge the lad fairly, even if some of us think we know where this is going to end up.

On that basis and nothing else, Selles IN.

I think we all know he is going to get sacked at some point because the vast majority of managers do - I think the only differing view on that will be the timelines to when that sacking will be.
