MATCHWATCH : Bolton Wanderers (h)

by Sutekh » 13 Sep 2023 08:13

When : Saturday September 16, 3pm
Where : Madejski Stadium, Reading, RG2 0FL
Capacity : 24,161

Bolton Wanderers will be one of the much better sides in this division and are proving that prediction very successfully at the moment by sitting second in the table with 13 points and have lost only one of their first 6 league games (by 4-0 at home to Wigan) so they are unbeaten so far in their 2 league games away from home.

The Trotters have bagged 10 league goals so far with 4 each for strikers Victor Adeboyejo (ex Barnsley) and Dion Charles so it seems pretty obvious when the danger lies. However any failure in that department could see some game time for the ageing Cameron Jerome and former Royal Jon Dadi Bodvarsson. In addition defender Jack Iredale can provide a threat from set pieces.

Reading will be anxious to try and strengthen the home record and stop the bad run of 2 straight defeats in the league. As it's off the back of the international break, given previous experiences, it will be a worry that players will have been lost to injury during training in the 2 weeks away however Bindon should be available if needed but Ejaria and Smith are definitely out. Ballard would be expected to be available to make his debut for the club following his excursion with the England youth which prevented him appearing at Cambridge.

Will be tough. A loss with a 1 goal swing wouldn’t be catastrophic. Draw would be excellent.

Nonsense, a loss is always a bad result, it's Bolton, not Barcelona. Draw would be okay, not excellent.

It won't though due to the majority of the people inside the stadium being massive fannies.

What if that loss minimises goal difference, losing 1-0 narrowly is clearly better than a moral sapping 5 goal hammering.

Thought that would be plainly obvious tbh.

I'd take a draw, but I feel this is winnable with our performances in the early season. I don't think Bolton are a side which will sit in and absorb pressure, so I feel we'll get opportunities on the counter attack. This will be a real test for our defence though.

I think of the sides expected to be towards the top of the league come the end of the season, Bolton have started the best (both in terms of points on the board and overall performances). It will certainly be the hardest test so far (in the league at least).

Not so sure about that-it surely is getting to the stage where the meek and mild will finally start to express their disappointment.
It happened with Pants Day, it could happen again.

Has to happen soon, the supporters have to take a stand and cause some serious disruption regardless of the consequences.

It's not about people being "loyal" or unloyal. If the points you win are being routinely taken from you every month then things are hopeless.

If Dai Yongge shows his face at this game or any Reading game again I fear for his personal safety.

The EFL have made no references to ongoing monthly points deductions.

And cannot apply them.

Using Wigan as a precedent they’ve been fined -4 x3 so far so I’d imagine any payment of wages delay will be further similar deductions eventually
