MATCHWATCH : Burton Albion (h)

by Sutekh » 26 Sep 2023 08:25

When : Saturday September 30, 3pm
Where : Madejski Stadium, Reading, RG2 0FL
Capacity : 24,161

Burton Albion return next and give the Royals an opportunity to revenge the dreadful piece of **** that masqueraded as a home performance under Stam the last time the two clubs met in Reading.

Burton are 1 place and 1 point above Reading in the current table but in real terms they are 3 points and 4 places below! They have won just one league game (an away trip to Port Vale on their last travels) and drawn another three which suggests they'll be one of the divisions strugglers this time round (they struggled badly last season until the last 3/4 months when they climbed safely away from all the worry) but then Burton probably realise that struggling is what it is for them at this level and will be well used to the proverbial "digging in" and making things difficult.

Former Millwall forward Mason Bennett is possibly Burton's most well known player to Reading fans and looking at the stats it's difficult to identify stand out threats for the Brewers but rest assured taking them lightly will spell trouble.

Ejaria and Smith will still be unavailable but Camara might be edging slowly towards a place on the bench, whether anyone else picked up a knock in the Blackpool disappointment probably won't be known until the team news is revealed.

Referee

Sam Purkiss

Previously...

Nothing known

Historically

Just two previous league games at home, the aforementioned (1-2) embarrassment under Jaap so typical of his second season, and an earlier 3-0 win from the season before that when the Dutchman was yet to be "found out".

How to follow the game

  1. Get a ticket and travel to the game
  2. Listen to Radio 5 Live and/or a myriad of other radio stations for score flashes
  3. Ring/text a mate for updates
  4. Use an RoyalsTV subscription
  5. BBC Radio Berkshire (FM : 104.4, 104.1 or 95.4 depending where you are in the area)

Important fixture that we take 3 points from. They won't make it easy but I fancy us to bounce back from Saturdays nightmare.

Aren't the club doing a special offer on tickets for this one? Would hope for a high attendance.

Although someone at the club should have done their research when it comes to special offer tickets and Burton Albion.....

Craig and Rushesa not with U21s tonight, so presumably in the mix tomorrow. Would definitely like to see Hutchinson out, so good call.

Wonder if Holmes will be in the squad today. Getting pissed off with the way he is being treated.
He is experienced and wanted by teams in leagues above. If he is that shit why is Selles treating him like this to the point where his confidence is being destroyed.

I think he played for the U21s yesterday and they lost 6 - 0 against Southampton.

Never a good sign when you see the line up and can't work out the formation.

He played in their previous 3-2 win and scored, looking like he was enjoying himself a bit again.

Didn't the U21s have a weak midfield last time out because Rushesha and Craig weren't involved?

Yeah, they were weaker in midfield tbf. Personally, I’d be giving Holmes another chance in the first team. I don’t think he’s a bad player. He has his limitations, but has mostly played in a poor team which can’t have done much for his confidence.

Can’t afford the tax bill but they can give every kid a oxf*rd rumble stick.

Edit: old man shouts at kids for having fun etc etc

Edit edit: to be fair it’s bouncing in here today despite Burton bringing what looks like less than 100.
