Eddie, a reliable ITK, reporting that a meeting is happening at the SCL today. Any photographers spying? A return of bush watch?

Uke
windermereROYAL Glen Little just confirmed on the radio that Mark Bircham from sports.com is interested in buying the club..he spoke to him Saturday at the game.
Also said the Bearwood issue put a spanner in the works.

Talking about deal details could also put a spanner in the works Glenn!

Was the presence or absence of Bearwood the issue though?

Wasn`t specified.

blythspartan SJM says the sale is very close and buyers with deep pockets.

He didn`t say that, at one point he said to dim that he knew about has much as him.

He said he was aware of 3 possible interested party`s and hoped a deal could be completed soon.

Besides, our current owner had very deep pockets.

Presume this meeting may primarily be to discuss the possibility of a bridging loan...

Not expecting anything in the public domain until end of week at the earliest, so before that, just the continuing rumours from twatter accounts of people supposedly making out they're in the know....

Yes ex-Millwall and QPR, his brother is Lee Bircham, who I think is currently manager at Bedford Town.

As regards the Bearwood sale (which is still being negotiated) really not sure what on earth the point is (or why) of Wycombe buying it as they can't afford it any more than Reading and it's a 50 mile round trip every time they want to go training - would have thought it'd make more sense for them to use Bisham!

Therefore can only presume that their owner sees it as a personal investment and may try hiring it out to other clubs/England etc. to use as I imagine he will have the devil's own job selling bits of it off for property development. Really hoping that the club will somehow manage to retain it but, at the end of the day, if it's the price we have to pay to get rid of the current owner then so be it!

Why are people so fixated on the distance between the Wycombe ground and Bearwood?

Football players do not live at the stadium. For a number of them, it may be an easier commute to get to Bearwood than their current training ground and on matchdays players tend to make their own way to the stadium for games.

The only real questions are a) can they afford it and b) can they even use it.

More I look at it - a) only because a 3rd party seems to be buying it for them to use and b) probably only if we are able to use it too - probably as primary tenant.

It's also a shorter commute than a lot of normal jobs' commutes

Some info from the Wycombe end FWIW. The price is £25m, it’s a new investor believed to be from the Middle East as opposed to the current owner, both clubs will train at Bearwood going forward. If that is correct then the deal does make sense in many ways in that Wycombe seem to be at a dead end with their own training ground and League 1 sides can’t afford £25m training facilities in isolation.
That still leaves lots of open questions but the crux of the deal at least has some logic to it.

Greatwesternline
Snowflake Royal
WestYorksRoyal But then your entire strategy relies upon promotion. Sustainable? You can build a good team, but it can all be ruined by any number of external factors. Ref howler in a big game. ACL injury to key player. Manager poached mid season. The width of a post.

If people want a sustainable club, that means a better plan than simply writing off losses if we stay down.

Any strategy has to be based around getting promoted out of L1.

GWL's figures are typically off, but we should be able to downgrade the Academy a level or two until we get back to the Champ, hopefully withing 3 years, and still make sales to help fund us from the residual talent like Bindon, Azeez, etc.

And in L1 those players left over have a better pathway to first team football and success, with room to grow into Champ players with us.

Should we miraculously survive. The Academy has brought in over £10m in the last 6/7 years. But it could have done significantly more.

Just out of curiosity how much do you think the Cat 1 academy costs to run per year, including depreciation, and how much do you think Reading got for Tshibola, would be nice to know which figure you think is off, with workings please.

Minimum cost for a Cat 1 academy when we set it up was about £1m a year. Most people quote about £3m - £5m a year these days.

So a sale of Tish at £3m would cover somewhere between half a year and 18 months on that basis.

Linden Jones' Tash in this 'sustainable' model, what level of annual losses in L1 are we expecting a prospective new owner to carry?

I would say the goal should be, after player sales, no more than £1m - £2m max. Ideally fluctuating with break even and small profits.

Maybe add a million at Champ level.

But we know it pretty much was, right up until we stopped paying bills and he did a runner.

Saying Nathan Jones was a done deal would be more of an accuracy concern.
