Can’t remember the exact team from the last round, but that looks fairly similar.

Heading down to the game tonight, so hopefully we get a good result.

They are not expecting many in- just 3 blocks open.
Duah might be injured.

Not even three full blocks - all taped off around the top of the entrances.

Royals and Racers 1-0 8 mins Harris
2-0 18 mins Harris Pen
3-0 35 mins Barough

We look better than we did against Forest Green - there’s a clear gulf in quality that wasn’t necessary obvious in the last round. Very comfortable so far tonight.

Nice to see a Reading team actually dispatching a lower ranked side comfortably.

Indeed. It was clear there was a difference in quality between the sides that wasn't as obvious against Forest Green. We were very comfortable in possession against FGR, but didn't look hugely threatening. We looked more threatening going forward and had the drive to keep looking for goals.

So far we're continue our run of not being knocked out the FA Youth Cup by anything other than a Premier League Category 1 academy (in 2019-20 we were knocked out by Category 2 Crystal Palace, but they became Category 1 at the end of that season) - which goes back to 2012-13 (excluding 2017-18 when we were expelled from the competition for fielding an ineligible player; we would've played Arsenal otherwise).

Onwards to Sheffield Wednesday or Hemel Hempstead.

Royals and Racers 4th round draw done already and Reading or Rotherham are away to Sheffield Wednesday or Hemel Hempstead.
Matches to be played by January 20th.

It’s Sheffield Wednesday we play. Went to pens after 2-2 after ET. Wednesday won 5-4 on Pens.

Surprised that went to penalties. Would've considered going to Hemel Hempstead had we been playing them; no chance of going to Sheffield

Not really. Even if they do make it they'll either be let go for nothing, or a pittance, most likely without making a first team appearance.

I mean, it has absolute no bearing on the league? None of the players who played tonight would play in the league this season and is good experience/exposure for the youth team...

The FA Youth Cup is far more important and credible compared to the Premier League U23's league which is in all honesty not the level of competition it should be.

At least with the Youth Cup the tournament has history that goes back 60+ years and one that every academy will play it's strongest team where possible. It was a major springboard for the Class of 92 and the West Ham team of the late 90's with the likes of Cole & Carrick who hosed up in it.

Our last memorable FA Youth Cup run was around 2014 I think? The wasted generation for whom plenty went on to have good careers away from Reading. Kuhl and Tanner sadly fell away, but it contained Dickie, Stacey and Fosu among others.

Let's hope we use this generation better.
