Confirmed - Ejaria gone

by WestYorksRoyal » 18 Dec 2023 18:40

Nobody saw this coming
https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2023/d ... l-consent/

Reading Football Club can confirm that Ovie Ejaria has left the club by mutual consent and becomes a free agent.

The midfielder, who joined from Liverpool, after impressing during a season-long loan during the 2019-20 campaign, signed permanently with the Royals in the summer of 2020 – making 124 appearances in total and scoring 9 goals.

Ejaria’s contract was due to expire after the end of this current season. However, with injury and fitness problems limiting first team action of late and a desire from the club to reduce its expenditure, an agreement was amicably reached for Ovie to leave the club early.

We would like to thank Ovie for his contribution to Reading Football Club and wish him well for the rest of his career.

Very talented player, but this is definitely for the best from the club's perspective. No doubt will get attitude pelters, but we don't know the full story so for me it's just a shame it didn't work out.

I wonder if another club will take a chance?

He's hardly started since covid and fallen out with 3 managers...

Surprised that the club even bothered to provide an explanation.

Good riddance, but thanks for a great loan spell and that performance at Fulham.

Is that now the end of the 'legacy' contracts?

All I'm gonna say is it's about 6 months since the interview Dele Alli got praised for and people are shouting good riddance at him. See also the Jadon Sancho situation. Football learns slowly.

We have no idea what's gone on and the pelters may be justified, but it's impossible to know. But the right decision for the club without doubt.

300k a week Sancho. Who turned up late for training for England, and regularly at Dortmund and then at Man United. Who uses the term "scapegoat" when he doesn't get his own way. Man's not ill, just f*cking arrogant and spoilt, and life is free and easy. We have MiniSancho who quite frankly let us all down and hopefully can find a club out in Cyprus in the 4th tier.

Sick of bloody footballers, should try doing a 10 hour shift 5 days a week and not seeing daylight on those 5 days.

Shame. He has so much talent but is throwing his career away.

Best for all parties. We move on.

There is now no player at the club that we have paid a fee for.

Good squad considering.

Presumably we must have found some cash to pay him off. Perhaps 2 - 3 months or so.

Certainly best all round. Shame as a genuinely good player to watch on his day - but that’s not been for a very long while now

Suspect there is something going on in the background with him but hopefully he can sort it and play again somewhere

Delighted he's gone - frees up a squad slot, probably reduced our payments to him until the end of the season (assuming there's a monetary aspect to him leaving) and clearly someone who isn't in the right frame of mind.

We'll probably hear in a decade what was going on with him and it will all make sense.

It's the best for the club, but still sad. He was a great player during the last season we weren't crap, and was part of the brilliant front four that Sky loved so much during Covid. I never saw him play badly for us.

If you are a manager, you should get the best out of all your players. Why do Reading attract these alpha twats who marginalise key members of the squad.

If this was just Selles where it had all gone wrong I’d be the first to call him out. The fact he basically hasn’t played under our last three managers plus whoever was at Rangers indicates more about the player than any of his coaches.

Obviously no one knows the full story. I hope he manages to sort himself out (or whatever was going wrong) and finds success elsewhere.

I remember reading this book by an ex-scout who said that when looking at young players you had to really investigate their background and personality. Because there were so many gifted, passionate players that he knew would never make it because they didn't have the mental strength to back it up. They would inevitably go off the rails at some point. It's just amazing to think that there are all these potential professional players who didn't make it because . . well. . .because they're basically dicks.

Was talking to a Rangers fan friend shortly after Ovie signed and he called his time with us pretty much to a tee. Frustrating, flashes of brilliance but everything totally on his own terms and with very little regard for the team or club as a whole.

Thought he tended to stifle our momentum and slow down play. His skills, while impressive, far too often led to nothing. I'm sure there's a player in there, and with the right manager/motivation he could kick on. But if he wasn't being motivated by what we were paying him he better hope his agent has contacts in Saudi Arabia.
