From a purely financial perspective a run to the final might have paid for a few more hot meals at the training ground and a few more overnight stays for away games.

What a dire game, particularly summed up in the second half and topped off with utter dire penalties. Everything just looked half arsed.

Problem was, as the game went on and subs made we got progressively weaker versus there outfield players and academy vs academy you be backing Brighton.

Just awful.

Good night.

You might not give a shit but the 500 Reading fans who went and spent money going might have cared. Only chance to see even a bit of glory this season

Their Academy is currently only above ours on GD.

Was just an arrogant performance by a team who assumed they would score at some point & keep a clean sheet.

Must be a strange atmosphere playing in an empty stadium but Brighton were happy to sit in and we showed we didn't really know how to unlock them. They just weren't there and hoping to win playing within themselves.

Couldn't be arsed to watch the pens as our record is always win one, lose one and we had won the last one.

Wasn’t long ago we were playing Brighton on level terms now we can’t even manage a goal against there academy team. Show how far we have fallen. Day at Wembley would have given everyone a lift and something to look forward to now all we have is a long relegation battle.

If only Selles could have been there on the sideline and in the dressing room, it would have been different.

Their best U21 players are away with the first team.

I feel sorry for the fans who travelled, but this will be forgotten if we beat Vale on Saturday.

Whilst I know you are taking the piss, and rightly so, his absence certainly added to the pre-season friendly vibe that tonight had.

Still baffled as to why we took our best striker of the ball off 5 mins before a penalty shootout.

Hope an U21 side wins it to finalise the farce this competition is.

Snowflake Royal Thankfully no one told Bindon, Pereira and Wareham.

But they couldn’t do enough.

Game was so there for the taking.

Pretty poor from management team.

At this level, you "do not win anything with kids or too many foreign players".

Who won the game?

The Indigenous.

Agreed. But as some of the fans who are always allegedly right would say, at least we can focus on the league
