An irrational hatred of Luton

by traff » 02 Feb 2024 09:45

I read this years ago (a decent little football book)
https://www.bitebackpublishing.com/book ... d-of-luton

I was never a fan of Luton, for several reasons, but now my hatred feels rational after acting like a pack of hyenas around a dying Zebra!!
I know it's business, but it felt kind of personal, so much for the love of the football family.

Reading fans accusing other clubs of being vultures need to get over themselves. Under SJM we picked up bargains from stricken clubs, most notably Kitson as Cambridge did their descent from L1 to non league.

Luton signed Holmes then sent him back on loan and signed an 18 year old with a solitary pizza cup appearance. They have helped themselves without damaging us greatly. Fair play

Yeah, I can’t get mad at them. They’re already in Luton, they’ve suffered enough.

Yep, no problem with Luton. They've been through the ringer and recovered, now mixing it with the entitled pricks of the PL and no doubt being patronised to death.

The only people we should be angry at are the people that have run the club for the last decade or so. Nobody else. Definitely not Luton, if anything they've probably done us a favour by giving us a bit of money now rather than waiting until the summer to see if we go properly bust or not. Don't even blame the EFL for all the points deductions, it was us breaking the rules and taking the piss.

They’ve just done what any good business do haven’t they?

No issues with it at all

No issue with Luton. The way their ground is in the middle of the housing estate, and you enter through someone's garage is great. Proper roots. Their plucky underdog status makes me like them. Plus we beat them when it mattered, so, what's to dislike?

Holmes may have found a wonderful club there and much luck to him!

Slightly different situations. One was an industry wide issue with ITV digital affecting multiple clubs throughout the EFL. The other is taking advantage of one particular club. If we hadn't signed Kits, someone else would, maybe for even less money.

Don't blame Luton, but do find it funny that they are the team who have taken the most advantage of our situation given they were in similar shit not long ago. A few of their fans are uncomfortable with taking advantage of our situation, given the similarities.

I honestly want them to stay up over Everton and if they do give manager of the year to their boss

100%. Rob Edwards is proving to be a first class manager and the way that he dealt with the recent Tom Lockyer situation was admirable. He wore his heart on his sleeve and, for me, gained many admirers in the process.

Don't get this, they loaned back Holmes too. From what Selles said there were far more opportunistic clubs (i expect at our level) who we turned down player bids.

I haven’t forgiven Luton for breaking our unbeaten streak in 2005/06. They should have had the decency to just let us win like everyone else did.

Dgaf about them signing our players. And anyone on their high horse should look at what we did wrt Doyle and Long…

Luton is a dump full of EDL skinhead thugs, they suffer enough.

But business is business. There's no-one who wouldn't capitalise on another club's misfortune.

I kinda hope Luton get relegated only so they don't end up with bags of cash and plans to build a new boring stadium away from their roots or worse still, tenants at Selhurst Park or similar.

MK Dons would be the more obvious ground share if they needed to wouldn't it?
