Would you lose against Blackpool to deny Oxford the play-offs?

by WestYorksRoyal » 20 Apr 2024 18:03

So next week, if Lincoln beat Portsmouth, it's virtually impossible for Oxford to make the play-offs except crazy GD swings. However, this is a hard task for Lincoln.

If Lincoln don't win and Blackpool beat us, it means Oxford need a win (a draw won't be sufficient). Oxford are away at Exeter who are finishing the season very strongly. When a team's season is basically over, you never know how they may react, but it seems Exeter are playing their best football of the season. So it will be really difficult for Oxford to win there, and if Blackpool beat us I think it could effectively condemn them to another season in L1 next season.

Personally, I would quite like to see this. We're at our lowest ebb in 25 years, a catalogue of issues of have come together at once. Hopefully, a takeover happens, we get stability over the summer, next season we restore the natural order, and Oxford can get used to looking up at us again. Whereas, if they somehow climb out of this division they could get ahead of us for several years. That being said, I expect Selles and the team to do everything they can to win as professionals.

I can see the counter argument that you always want to win, or that Oxford's promotion is unlikely even if we thrash Blackpool. But if we can contribute to ending their chances next Saturday on what is a dead rubber for us, I'll take that.

Perhaps I am greedy but I'd prefer us to win and the Pox to miss out due to their own ineptitude.

It would be a happy by product of losing but I want us to end this of all seasons on a high, particularly at home.

More fun to watch Bolton do them in the PO's.

It's win win imo.

Oxford fail to go up, LOL. But if Oxford do go up they get patronised by everyone and given a proper showing up.

It'll be Lincoln v Pompey. They're the ones with it in their own hands and they're hosting the champions. Unless 2 are televised?

If we lost and denied Oxford a play off place, it'd be a consolation, but I'd rather see us win.

Definitely just want us to win and end on a high, we deserve a good mutual lap of appreciation, been a while since it hasn't seemed like a farce and a defeat will put a damper on it. Hopefully results will conspire against Oxford so it won't matter, Exeter are in good form so will be tough for them, Lincoln I would favour against Portsmouth who have nothing to play for and even though Barnsley's form isn't great, they'll hopefully get the win at home to Northampton.

Worst comes to worst, I hope Oxford get dicked in the play-offs.

Don't they actually start out with two but reserve the right to switch games as necessary as the matches unfold?

I think Oxford will lose in the playoffs anyway regardless of us denying Blackpool
