Probably kept it himself as its his first cap for england, wouldn't trade my first one for the world, personally!

Bit awkward to wear it as a cap though.

Actually do they still issue real caps?

I thought that they did, and that they were numbered.

Back to the original question - I don't think he swapped with anyone. It lookd to me that he kept his shirt on.

He was certainly walking back down the tunnel to the changing rooms wearing it.

If I were Shorey, I would have faked to take my shirt off with Ronaldinho and run off with both. Would have had lovely symmetry with the way he fakes to pass and then skips away with the ball.

They used to issue a physical cap for every game, but IIRC they now just award one cap when you play your first game.

Players used to be given two shirts for an international to allow them one to keep and one to swap. Not sure if this is still the case.

It is. Each player arrives in the dressing room to find 2 shirts on his hook, one with short sleeves and one with long sleeves. Both are his to do with as he pleases, 2 more will be provided for the next game.

I'm pretty sure it's still a real cap per game.
Didnt Rooney's get stolen when his house was broken into in 2006? Something like that.
