Why is he showing off his watch?
Is it his special 'press conference' watch?

Good news: We have a manager, and we can now move on in football.
Bad news: Watford now hate us... Nevermind.

winchester_royal It's so nice to see we've chosen to go with a manager who believes in playing football the right way. Must have been tempting for NH and JM to opt for the higer profile Adie Boothroyd.

Don't wish to tempt fate, but yet again it looks like they've done yet another sterling job in this process. Hammond gets an awful lot of abuse on this board, but it is no coincidence that he has been a major factor in our recent success.

If you believe what you read the fans aren't the only ones who are disappointed with Hammond. Madejski isn't very impressed by some of his signings i.e. Kebe,Matejovsky, etc.

Consequently, I think this is a big appointment for Hammond.

Mourinho told Rodgers to take the job

by Focher » 05 Jun 2009 10:05

From the Watford site, i love the last sentence i don't think he was watching our games last season

"BRENDAN RODGERS has revealed how Jose Mourinho advised him to take the Reading job.
Rodgers, 36, quit Watford yesterday after just 192 days in charge to succeed Steve Coppell at the Madejski Stadium.

He began his coaching career with the Royals before being head-hunted by former Chelsea boss Mourinho, who is now in charge of Inter Milan.

Rodgers said: “I spoke with Jose before coming here. He was great for me as he helped nurture my career. He’s someone I can go to and get advice.

“When the approach came from Reading I spoke with him and he said ‘go for it’.

“He knew Reading when they were in the Premier League. He remarked that the atmosphere at the stadium was fantastic.”

True, he did say he wanted out after he won you the second title. So much for his love for Chelsea.

To be fair, the two Chelsea home games did have good atmospheres, mainly down to the events that took place during the first meeting.

Luckily Jose wasn't in attendance for the other 18 home games those seasons as the noise levels would have probably been far, far lower.

"Bring it on!"

Of course Rodgers ain't got a clue about RFC, that's why he had to ask someone who's now in Italy, and who managed a team that played us a few times.

So what happened to the 100 applicants, the short list, the interview process etc?

Basically we just went to Watford and got the man we wanted, so why wait a month. Wigan will manage to do the same in a couple of days.

I think what he meant was that when he was at Chelsea he was sent on various scouting missions to watch Reading play, looking at our style etc and remarked that the atmosphere was superb. This wouldn't suprise me as many of the youth coaches at various clubs are utilized as scouts aswell.

You'd think that having been at the club since he was 16 he'd have a fairly good idea himself of what the atmosphere was (or wasn't) like...

Yeah you'd think so wouldn't you.

But being 'advised' by his mates, family and himself doesn't have the same clout as the self-appointed special one.
