Great news, thank you to SSC and JM, and possibly to the parking space decorating crew.

Rawlie19
Kes
Rawlie19 You told us there would be a press conference on the 20th May at 2.30pm? Impressive stuff from a Chelsea supporter.

I said there was a press conference next week. Didn't say the day or time as it had to be confirmed.

In that case, I predict that Reading will sign a new player in the next 2 months. You heard it here first.

F*cking hell! That's a pretty rash prediction!!

We are talking Reading not Chelsea you know!!

Today's pretty much a good news day though!

Harry Carry As suspected, a bit of a pointless news conference. i think SKY realised that after about 10 minutes of drivel.

No, Fergie came on.........and off they went!!!

It would have been more interesting if they'd let you listen to Madejski

Stevie G For me this speaks volumes about the club, SSC, the chairman, the fans, the backroom staff and all and is all part of the continued 'brick by brick' philosophy.

The fans are not demanding of constant and instant success and can swallow whatever is chucked at us (despite what you read on HNA). We are an up and coming club, with ambition, but not overinflated ego.

The chairman can accommodate risk, the odd bad decision and dressing room fallout without resorting to blaming the manager to save his skin. He clearly has a business plan that could accommodate relegation and quite likely had it at the start of the season.

As a club we don't dispense with the one man expected to pull it all together at the first or even major sign that it's not going as best as it could.

I'm still very disappointed that we just didn't get that draw at home to Fulham or Bolton, or didn't conceded so badly against Pompey or Spurs but the last game of the season sealed my opinion on the potential for effort and commitment.

Expect some plaudits from the football fraternity. Newcastle, Citeh and some black country clubs et all take note!

That says it all for me. Well done Sir.

Agreed, the rest of the world must have been watching, bored to tears, and thinking "Who gives a shiate?".

Not sure why we needed the drama and publicity of a press conference to announce that our manager, who is under contract, is staying. Why couldn't the club simply release a statement? And if they knew last Wednesday, as is alleged, why the drawn out delay?

Media coverage, hits on the website - all means more money in the coffers for JM.

The Club definitely knew on Thursday, possibly Wednesday last week.
Mr Still said that 'He did intend to walk away'.

But after the various messages of support from everyone connected with the Club, he told them last week he was staying - if needed.
JM said yes!

The club has as season to court a new manager if he is intent on leaving at the end of this contract.

I don't think Coppell will have made that decision yet though.

It's not how he does things (as we all know)

Be fair, it was vital to know that Danny Cippriati (who?) uses the same ankle specialist as Mr. Mad.

If we don't go up, he'll leave - that's obvious.
If we go up, maybe he'll stay - depends.

Why would he leave if he got us promoted again, for a man often bereft of emotion you could see his delight at the end of the 'record' season.

We're not going to be far off the mark next season. If we make it, he'll stay, if we don't, he'll retire, if we are out of contention just after Christmas I think he'll indicate his intent to move on and that JM will have to seek out another manager. I really don't think with his stature the relationship would go that sour. Another manager would then be given a year's surge support for promotion to meet the end of the parachute payments with an outline 3 year 'contract' plan to build and promote if not promoted in that initial year. If you can't do it in 3 years, move on again.

If we're promoted under Steve again, I think he may move upstairs after a year in the Prem if we're safe again.

If only!

From what I know.

If we go up, he'll want the wage structure to be a lot more competative than last time we went up.
This is why, in his mind we could not tie down Sidwell and possibly Shorey...

I doubt very much that he will say anything at Xmas should we have a poor season.
What's the point of that?
Players morale would crash even further and attendances would plummet.

If he don't care, why should we???
