Back From The Game - Plymouth (H)

by Streets » 16 Aug 2008 17:20

Yeah I'm kinda glad no one bought my ticket now.

Kebe - awesome
Harper - tackled hard at times, usual reliable self
Sonko - superman returns
Cisse - superb today, tackled well, good awareness and vision
Hunt - reliable
Rosenior - Murts wont walk back into the side so easily with more of the same

Overall very pleased. We grew stronger as the game wore on and could have walked away with it in the end.

Plymouth - dump.

Coppell - quiet
Madejski - tight fisted, milked his applause, ego restored

Kebe awesome...I hope some of the hobnobbers give this guy a chance now. I reckon he has the makings of a good linking up with Rosenior down the right hand flank...I saw that in the pre-season friendly against Forest Green and he could prove to be a very good signing.

But you've left out the crucial detail. Did you boo JM?

No. I did though turn 180 degrees and moon him much to the surprise and pleasure of the fit bird two rows infront and three to my right.
"You're as tight as my arse hole John!"

You have to say Sonko for those goals but I'm going Kebe. Great feet today and bursts of pace. Cracking cross on the lad too!

Good to hear Kebe's crosses were good today because he has pace to burn so if he combines these two facets of his game he can cause some damage. Opposition defenders wont be acquainted with him either so he could prove to be a real asset this season.

And, take a seat... we used 3 subs!!

Good to see Kelly coming on but LOL, bless, his cross. Interesting to see him come on in a right wing position. Looked lively in reserve games and a possible run out on the right could be on the cards, maybe.

What does that say for James Henry though?!

Nothing. Kelly was on the bench as full back cover as technically there were 3 wingers on the pitch already. SC just gave the lad a run out and used him in the more accommodating position. SC said in his interview on radio berks that pearce, henry & kelly had all done well in the cup game and will all feature as part of his squad for the season. If somebody is injured or off form then they must be ready to step in.

Excellent result today and am pleased with the result. Kebe, Cisse and Sonko = superb. Hunt, Harper and Rosenier = good. Sonko just seems his old self again and proved today that he wants to be at this club. I thought the attendance was pretty good tbh and the support was good. I worry about Doyle though as he is so good on the ball but never has the final ball and also he didn't look fit.

Dissagree.

Doyle's control of the ball is terrible. If he's surrounded and has the ball at his feet he's stuffed. Seems pretty heavy on his feet too. Definetely needs a goal or three to get him going and get that confidance back.

I thought we were OK today, but little more. Plymouth were very limited, but we really didn't create nearly as much as we should have done. The 05/06 team would have coasted that one 4-0, but we ended up having to rely on two set-piece goals.

The win might have been something of a reality check for those predicting we'll go down again, but we'll need to do a lot better to leave this league at the other end too.

Early days and all that but if we beat Charlton next Saturday we do go top...that would surely give the side a boost.

Reading did what they had to do today, Plymouth were absolutely atrocious and have to be one of the worst teams in this mediocre league. But having said that Reading passed it well at times, created some chances and looked far more assured at the back. I really think Hunt may have found his calling at left back, another more than decent performance with some great crossing as well today!! 2 assists, almost Shorey esque! Ingimarsson was much better today, Sonko - this is his level isn't it? At CCC level with forwards (used in the loosest term) like Plymouth have there aren't many that will get by him, he took his goals very well.

The two wingers were lively, I am still not convinced at all with our central midfield although it was better today, the only other slight worry I have is our two forwards don't look like scoring. They both worked hard, both played a solid 6/10 game but I can't think of them really threatening. I'd liked to have seen N Hunt get a few minutes longer on the pitch. If you are bing a bit ultra critical then it should have been 4,5 or 6-0 as Plymouth were that dump. Overall though today it was job done, beat a poor side and move on. Solid if unspecatular but 100x better than the last 2 games.
