Roy Tranter - RIP

by STAR Voice » 29 Dec 2008 13:24

Roy Tranter, one of the men to who we most owe the debt of having a football club to support, has sadly passed away last night.

The word "legend" is over-used these days, but Roy truly was a "Reading legend."

My thoughts are with his familly and close friends at this sad passing, Mr Tranter will always have a special place in the hearts of us life time Royals, for saving our football club. Thanks for all you done and thankfully for all your efforts 20+ years ago, you did have the time see us into the top league.

I'm embarrassed and slightly ashamed to admit I had no idea who Roy was until this thread was posted.

I'm sorry to have been educated under such sad circumstances. An important name in the club's recent history and one who deserves to be remembered by all Royals.

My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Thanks for making it possible for the club to exist for me to support them Roy. RIP.

RIP Trant

I'm fortunate enough to have been quite close to Roy as both he and his wife are family friends. I often sat in awe as he told stories of the Football Club past and present.

A true legend and someone who we should all be grateful to for helping to keep Reading FC as Reading FC.

Anyone as supportative of RFC as Mr Tranter deserves all these plaudits, as mentioned he was here for many a long day, i wonder if perhaps the club could put up a plaque in his honour at the ground. Or allow STAR to do so?

RIP, never knew you but so much in common, RFC forever.

A simple THANK YOU along with the other directors and Roger Smee for quashing Robert Maxwell and allowing thousands to enjoy Reading reaching the Premiership.

A gentleman who devoted so much time to his local team and the people of Reading

Its now time to look down from your grandstand seat.
