Old codger here. yes to both games. Fridays goal was just out of this world and out of the blue. a wonder goal.

3-1 away at Tranmere was something very special. We were awesome. It was as if our players didn't need to look up. They all knew where each other would be. the running off the ball etc was superb. Best ever display by a Reading team.

happy days

I am 50 years old by the way.

I was at the 0-6 (nice!) and the 2-2 where we came back from 2-0 down in that unbearable run of draws that saw us creep over the line to get out of league 1. Seem to remember the Rouge putting in a shift that day and scoring right in front of us with a header. And if my memory serves me right Sir Mad bought a round in the Mersey Clipper?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifEuoeshHFk for the first game - if you think things were bad last season at least you didn't have to watch that sh1t every week.

Thaumagurist* The one where Robin Friday scored his spectacular goal?

No, I didn't. I can't imagine many people on here can claim to have seen it. Only the older nobbers probably.

Speaking as an old nob, I was there. A mere lad at the time of course but with my dad, still a RFC fan today at 94. All the stories are true. We had posh seats near the half way line (D was it?) and it was a Friday night game (it was dark anyway) against promotion rivals. RF teed the ball up about twenty feet away from us. And yes Clive Thomas (the Howard Webb of his day) did applaud the goal.

Eh? Either my memory's gone, or the pitch was a lot narrower in them days - I thought Friday was on the South Bank side of the pitch - more like 50 yards than 20 feet from D stand.

Oh alright, maybe not twenty feet but he was definitely a tad closer to the posh seats than the South Bank

Your memory serves you well. He was on the South Bank side of the pitch at the Tilehurst End.

Yes to both games, although judging by the number of people who claim to have been at the EP game you'd have thought that the attendance was something like 30k.

PS I was one of the 85k people on the South Bank for that match. We had a crowd of 2M in that evening - it was great.

And if we'd been playing Brighton it would have been 4.5million.

Present, even though it was a school night.

Back in the days when there used to be a supporters bus from Newbury wharf.

Sadly, not present that night - one of the few games I missed that season.

Preferred to spend that evening helping out a friend in the hope of later getting into her knickers.

Failed miserably on that, so putting women >>>> football is not a mistake I've made since.

What I remember was what a great game it was, but the highlight was the local police.

I recall that we had about 17 coaches going up the M6 and for some reason the local police insisited that the coaches arrived in numberic order. The drivers had not been made awar of this, so we trying to sort out via radio , how to get into convoy before they left the M6. I know our coach was crawling in the slow lane watching the low numbers pass us.

A great game, anyone should try and watch it

I was at the Tranmere game but i didn't see it.

A 0-0 draw apparently, you couldn't even see the halfway line through the fog.

You're wrong - thousands of people can claim to have seen it, and they do. The number of people who've said they were there far exceeds the attendance at that match.

You've counted them have you? All those people who claim to have been at the game?

What a sad muppett. They could have been lying you know.....................

Hoop Blah The 3-1 game is possibly the best 90 minutes I've ever seen us play, especially considering the high stakes at the time.

I've watched it back on video a number of times over the years and it still looks like a great performance.

...much better than the 6-0 thrashing we got up there a few years later!

Agreed. The best away performance I have ever seen by a Reading team.
