Ian, never read 'em mate.

You seem to be spoiling for a fight with me for some reason. Dunno why. I agree with you that Harper can still do a job .. just not with us. And probably never again in the premiership. Hence the lack of interest in him from the top flight.

HARPER FOR HOWARD?

by shoey » 02 Sep 2009 14:23

I am a little bit confused and shocked by us swapping Harps for Howard.

I think Howard is a fantastic player, centre mid or wide left, but to loose Harps on a loan, to strenghtern a rival to me, makes no sense.

BR wasnt going to play him so I see why it has been done, but I would have kept him and played him.

The team needs experience at the moment, we have signed some very good promosing players, but I don't agree with this one.

Hopefully I am proved wrong

Can't you just read the other threads on this and not ask the same question that's already been answered over and over again?

I thoughtz Howard was good at Luton and quite good at Derby although a million was a lot to pay for him but a big target man is just what we need and much betterz than Harper The Clown.

That's Stephen Howard. I watched him play for Leicester against Newcastle the other night. The one we're apparently interested in is Brian Howard.

Oh shit really?

I'm not quite so keen then although I liked him in Happy Days and Apollo 13 was quite moving in places.

Meanwhile, Blades boss Kevin Blackwell is delighted to have added Harper to his squad, having been a long-time fan of the midfielder.

Blackwell said: "I have been chasing James for a long time. He will give us a presence in the midfield which we have missed since Gary Speed picked up his injury.

"He's been in the Championship Team of the Season for about four of the last eight years and others were chasing him, so I'm delighted to snap him up."

Obviously one manager knows a lot less than BR.

:| Has Blackwell never seen him play, he's about as close to Gary Speed's style of play as I am

from a sheff u board....

"Not very bright down Reading way are they .

Arniepie reckons it's a shrewd move on their chairmans part by loaning Harper until his contract ends out so that Arsenal don't get 40% of the fee .

He forgets to realise that Reading would get the other 60% .

Priceless ! "

Nope Reading are smart oh yes, they have a plan...

That's assume for a moment that after playing for some silly little team in steel city, he would be valued at £1.5M?

A good guide to his wages would be 20K per week.

20K x 52 = £1,040,000 per year.

60% of our profit from a £1.5M sale would be... £900,000...

...so Reading would be better off paying £1,040,000 so they can make £140,000 loss as the end of the year?

DO YOU SEE?

Plus factor in some kind of loan fee (or Howard if that's what his value is) and it looks like a good bit of business for both us and Sheff to me.
