DARREN O'DEA

by shoey » 01 Sep 2009 11:06

this is a real coup for reading, a real coup.

I follow scottish football alot, and he is a real gem, was captain of celtic a few times during pre-season and has been offered a new celtic contract before this loan deal.
VERY VERY HIGHLY rated at celtic and through scotland and for the national team.
Delighted with this signing.
A real coup

I saw him play for Ireland U-21s (if that's the national team you're talking about) and thought he was a bit on the slow side. Tbh, I think he was expected to have kicked on now though - there was talk about him two years ago but his star does not seem to be shining too brightly at Celtic atm.

It only says short term loan - Does anyone know how long that means?

Sounds like he has a point to prove and if it happens to be that he does it here, I'm all for that.

A Celtic fan on BBC reckons he is their best CB! Apparently has also played LB so should give us some good cover.

Maybe he'll play left back, with Bertrand playing left wing, seeing as we have no other left winger.

Although its always nice to have a talented player at Reading on the flip side it almost seems like a pretty pointless excersise.
By the sounds of things this wont ever turn into a loan 2 buy move if all goes well, and by placing the likes of Pearce on the bench till Jan will only isolate IMHO a quality loyal royal player.

After he's gone then what? The remaining half season with the back 4 having to adjust again to a Pearce being back in the squad.
Sorry not to jump on the happy wagon like everyone else but just being realistic - still tho shows Rodgers has his fingers in more pies than we all first thought!!!

Erm, HRK, Bozanic (out on loan) and kebe can play left wing. Im sure McAnuff, henry and Antonio can play there too by cutting inside a lot. I think that maybe O'Dea is more of a CB/LB cover as Ingi is still not fit and Armstrong is still injured.

Great, another toothless simpleton to join the ranks after Doyle & S. Hunt had left

I won't feel comfortable getting public transport to and from the match now :|
