O'dea would have been a 10 million signing if he wasn't on loan?

How do you get "match fit" if you're sitting on a bench and don't even get to come on as sub? Why do you buy a player (whom you knew wasn't "match fit" when you bought him) for £2million and then get someone in on loan to play in his position?

But why spend £2m on someone and not play them? This smacks of Halford and Fae all over again. Can ANY of our managers be trusted with big money?

Was Mills the signing that I said "smacked of desperation" after we couldn't get Tommy Smith? I honestly can't remember.

Maybe that's why we keep to the cheap deals?

Mills is "one for the future" as the cliche goes, but I agree with RL he ain't going to get match fit sitting on the bench. Hope we've got some reserve games coming up.

Nope, Mills was quite early in August. The TS transfer fell through in the last week of August.

Hmmm.

Just seems strange that he's not giving him any sort of chance at the moment. All this "not match fit" stuff gets on my nerves too.

Given that we signed Mills about a month before deadline day, I'd suggest not.

Like....that....makes....much....difference.

O'dea doesn't know any of our players or had any bedding in and has stepped right in and looked twice the player.

If a 23 year old is not fit 7 games into the season with normal training..might as well hang up the boots.

Why does signing him means we have to play him if, in training so far, he's not as good as the two who started?

Does smell of Halford a bit this one.

Certainly hasn't looked anything like a £2m player, fit or not. Must have felt the big man when he arrived, been a bit of a kick in the bolloxs.

I still think he'll take Pearce's place in the side in the next month or so.

Certainly nothing wrong with talking about it. £2m is a lot of money, which could have been used in different areas, including raping up a certain deal that we missed out on cause we took too long to stump up the cash...

When did we last hear that? Or are you referring to HNAers?

When he was bought we didn';t know O'Dea would be available - but what the hell? We now have quality centre-back cover, and you can be sure at least one of Pearce and O'Dea will be injured and/or suspended at some part of the season.

Looks bleak for Ivar, though....

Arguably the money could have been better spent elsewhere. Up front, for example.

because it makes you wonder what BR saw in him to sign him in the first place? And he signed O'Dea on loan well after he signed Mills. He's obv not ruled out through injury or he wouldn't be on the bench - so, basically, I see it as a big fat waste of £2 million so far.

Hmmm...I still suspect some desperation at the end of the window. Would we really have brought O'Dea in had Mills slotted in comfortably? With Cisse as such reliable cover?
