by shaka's shorts » 05 May 2010 11:22

Congrats HRK. 1st call up for wales u21's. Still qualified for England and Nigeria as this is a friendly, but the experience should help him and boost his confidence.

Haven't Wales got enough players who can't shoot or cross already?

Hal Robson Kanu - The New Ryan Giggs!

by Thames » 19 May 2010 14:17

Made his debut for Wales U21's last night and has been rewarded with a FULL call up for Sunday's game in Croatia.

Best of luck lad.

Reading a few things over the last few days you realise just how much the Welsh rate Jake Taylor. Seem to expect him to be up there with Bale/Ramsey in years to come.

So our Academy has produced (in recent years)

English U21, Scottish U21, Welsh U21 and full international, Icelandic U21 and full, Turkish u21, Danish U21 plus various lower age groups.

Have I missed any (Bozanic for Australia perhaps ?)

Can you really say the Academy produced Gylfi rather than developed him?

Didn't he only join us about 5 years ago at about 15? Or is it just a case of time has flown by?

I guess you could cut it anyway you like !

We could exclude Simon Church and Alex Pearce because they weren't actually born at the stadium !

As far as I'm concerned if a player was part of our Academy then they are 'home grown'' and I'm not that fussed about deciding where to draw the line in any greater degree of granularity.

So Shane Long isn't an Academy product (although he learned almost all his football here) but Gylfi is, although he had a good grounding back in Iceland.

As he played for the academy, yes you can.

What a ridiculous thing to say! So a 17 year old comes to the club, makes one 5 minute substitute appearance for the Academy and is suddenly it's product.

Ludicrous Jay.

Need to apply the commonsense test here Ian.....
For a start you wouldn't sign a 17 year old to the Academy and then only play him once for 5 minutes would you ?

Well they are missing Craig Bellamy, Simon Davies, Joe Ledley, Jack Collison, Gareth Bale, James Collins, Aaron Ramsey etc etc...a pretty useful group of players for a kick-off.

I have applied common sense, by using two distinct terms, "developed by" for not having gone through the academy from an early age and "product of", from having been in there from an early age.

I'm not the one who made a sweeping generalisation that just playing for the Academy constitutes being a product of it.

Happy to have an intelligent conversation about which should apply to Gylfi.
