... STEVE RICHARDSON.

Steve is firmly inside the Top Ten All-Time Royals Appearances list, with over 350 league appearances and 450+ including other competitions to his name, between 1982 and 1992.

He's now assistant manager at Basingstoke Town, who beat Worcester City dramatically on penalties earlier this week to qualify for the first round proper of the FA Cup.

You are joking right?

As much as Steve Richardson is a top bloke this is the Royals footie 'phone-in and he the manager of a different club.

Also, as previously pointed out, Basingstoke is in Hampshire.

I can't help but feel that with 450 plus appearances to his name he qualifies for a "Royals footie phone-in", regardless of current status.

If Graeme Murty was working on the coaching staff at another club in twenty years' time, I'd still quite like to hear him on the phone-in.

Yes, but it will be 90% Basingstoke and that game against Worcester ... perhaps we can ban the word for the phone-in

Scored the goal at Ipswich that got the point, that got us our higest ever league position (as was) in '87.

I guess I'll still tune in. He is a legend:

"STEVE RICHARDSON (1982 – 1992): Steve made the left-back position his own during his eleven seasons with Reading, and was a regular in the 1985-86 Division Three Championship team as well as a Simod Cup medal winner at Wembley in 1988"

85-86 was my second season as a season ticket holder and until recently some of my best memories as an RFC fan.

Good luck to Basingstoke but I don't want to hear about them for an hour. We are playing Liverpool for the first time in the league, ever, the next day. Please don't forget that Ollie.

Any questions for Steve? The more Reading-related questions, the less Basingstoke chat...

Steve,

Good luck in the cup.

Reading are playing Liverpool tomorrow for the first time ever in league football. How do you think they will get on?

Back in the day, did you used to tune in to the draw hoping to get Liverpool at home?

Good choice this actually, and topical too. Not exactly likely to get current players and managers in when they're all up in Liverpool are you so stop moaning all you lot that are moaning

Questions for Steve

Who is your favourite Richardson; Jolie, Miranda or Tom (well he's the son of my mate Richard).

Red or blue bounties

Is quality or quantity best?

Which was your best goal for Reading?

Now its long ago, what stories and anecdotes can you reveal about the management you played under?

Who was the best manager you worked with?

Its the xmas disco and the booked entertainment is too short. In the backroom you find the karaoke machine all raring to go - do you tell anybody?

Who were your heroes when you were playing?

If you found a duck savaging your slippers, would you remonstrate with it?

That Friday Feeling Steve made the left-back position his own

Steve, what do you think about the current Royals defence and if you were still playing for the Royals today do you think you would get into the starting XI?

Ollie If Graeme Murty was working on the coaching staff at another club in twenty years' time, I'd still quite like to hear him on the phone-in.
Why don't you book him now for 20 years time then as he's unlikely to have anything else pencilled in as yet.

Mainly 'cos it's not my job to book our guests, simply to let you know about them and then take the abuse.

Were there any players you looked up to as a player?

Do you feel your generation of footballers were underpaid or are today's players overpaid?

Have you ever walked into a Reading pub wearing your Simod Cup medal (and some clothes, obviously) hoping that fans will recognise you and buy you free drinks all night?

Do you ever get the impression people are asking you questions out of politeness when in truth they can't even remember you?

or a bit of both

Q. During your time at The Camrose, which ex-Reading player has been the best acquisition?

and

If you could have one player on loan from our current squad, who would it be and why?
