you make less money over a sucessful run, but as bradford have shown you make good money long term, bums on seats, pile it high sell it cheap, call it what you like, but there is money to be made, unless tesco and Sir ian whatsit knew shite about business.

You really need to run the maths to see where the tipping point is.

the maths here is simplistic but lets say its all adults and they all pay the discounted online in advance game per game basis

so lets say there is great take up on yout £300 offer and we sell 20 000 season tickets
20000 @ 300 each = £6 000 000

Now I believe we have 9000 season ticket holders and current attendances of around 16K so we have lets be conservative and say 6000 game by game tickets sold

9000 x £425 = £3 825 000
6000 x £22.5 x 23 = £3 105 000

so that is approx £7 000 000

My suggestion was £300 for the north stand, which is the least popular for ST holders, like other clubs sell out the cheaper seats first, even make it £300 for a st for all seats there, no concessions, then work prices in the other stands from that price point

and i did some simple maths,

as you up the price so the attractiveness of the offer goes down so we would be less likely to sell the 20000 i used in my example

300 was the renewal price for all stands except upper west at the start of the 2005 2006 season

I believe we sold around 8000 season tickets

match day tickets in advance were £17

Next season I think I'm just gonna buy tickets for the games I want to go to and take advantage of these sort of offers.

Whilst I appreciate that the stadium will be full(er) and the atmosphere maybe slightly better than the norm. I feel slightly put out that some people get effectively a 2 for 1 offer on what I've paid slightly less than the normal person would. YET for renewing my ST early, I get a "bring a mate for free" (before December).

Why is someone else's good fortune your misfortune?

You're getting exactly the same product you thought you were paying for when you bought the ST in May or whenever, so what's the difference to you - except the fact that the club is doing something to make there be more people and a better atmosphere for the matches you're at?

they only get 2 for 1 on this one game

the club would have to do this 5 times before theyw ould be better of than soemone who bought a season tciket unless you bought your season tciket and only intend to go to a few games, in whcih case you would have been better off not buying a season ticket even if the club didn't run the prmotion

Whilst I agree and see your points, this sort of offer together with living in Bournemouth is seriously making me think very hard about renewing again. Evening games are now more hassle to get to now that my working circumstances have changed (I no longer work in Reading)

I really don't understand why someone who lives far enough away to make going to football 'hard work' would be a ST holder in the first place? Granted, in the Premiership first season it was a necessity but since then you haven't needed to buy one at all. As far as I am concerned, you are simply paying for the priviledge of having a seat next to your mates for every game without the hassle of organising it yourself

thats fine, if you struggle to make every game don't have a season ticket, and yes this type of program will make not having a season ticket even more attractive to you

Part of it is that having a ST forces/enables you to go to every game. "I would come shopping (or whatever) with you on Saturday, darling, but there's a game on and I've alredy paid for it....."

There are certainly matches I would have skipped in the past if I'd not had a ST which I would have regretted skipping as it turned out.

Having the ST puts those matches into your diary at the start of the season, not on a week-by-week basis when they're in conflict with all the other demands on your time.

No £300 was the north stand only in an attempt to fill it (a little way along the lines HSSC suggests), both East and Lower West were £425 (from memory) and Upper West more. Then we had the opposite problem with an excess of demand and although the club possibly could have sold out quite a few games with horrendous prices they only made them expensive.

The problem with all these calculations is that who has the bottle to really test the elasticity of demand? At which price point does the gound only just sell out as that is precisely where you want to pitch it, and even if you think you have that sussed the team then play differently and it all changes again.

I've lived in Bournemouth now for just over 1 year. But as said earlier I used to work in Reading, so evening matches I would stay with my Bro's after the match, then just do the short 10mile trip to work the following day. That ended not so long ago when I was made redundant. So while I'm working in Bournemouth that means that I now have to finish up here then fly up the A338/A31/M27/M3/A33 in rush hour. By the time I've parked my car and walked to the stadium I'm pushing it to get there for kick off. Then I have to do the journey back south after the match as I start work at 8 and don't want the hassle of having to leave my Bro's at 6am to get to work on time.

Saturday matches are fine as I can get the train for 8.50 each way or if I haven't pulled my finger out just drive and drive back without any hassle of rush hour traffic.

This is why this 2 for 1 offer has made me re-think my position.

I've been a season ticket holder since the Mad Stad was made reserved seating, and have renewed every season with the exact thinking as yours Dirk. Footy is a great excuse to get out of things, and sometimes away from things!!

Take the afternoon off work. Leaves you with plenty of time to get to Reading.

At least that's what I do.

Given your post count - I guess you spend the morning on here!

Better watch out when they bring some consultants in on a lean/productivity drive!

I think the time for the Club to be inventive is with the non-away South Stand when the rest of the ground is below capacity.

I think there should be some really good incentives for kids and Adults to fill this part of the ground.

(CRB checks permitting!)

Are you sure about that? I really don't remember the differential being that big. £330-£350 for East Stand renewals maybe?

It was £300 North, £360 east and lower West, and £395 Upper West, all adult prices of course.

Match tickets for the Championship were due to have been £17, booked online, £19 in advance in person, £22 on day or non member card, concessions were to be £9, £11, and £14, Upper west was dearer, sadly I have the PDF file for that early renewal stuff saved!!!!
