royalexile Bored posting m8. I go to the Jazz.

I suspected that but went with the flow, so to speak. I'm getting to the age where I prefer comfort over trying to but overpriced beer in an "Atrium", Sports bar or concourse.

I'd do the Jazz for a swifty during half time.

Yeah i have been known to cram a ciggie in, rush up to the Jazz, quick pint, piss and back for the second half. It's almost a refined art.

I have a bit more time as I don't smoke but as I'm not a regular I like to bolt out for the start of the 2nd half leaving most of my mates still drinking. I can normally knock back a pint in 10 minutes flat.

To be honest - who has a Xmas party on a Saturday afternoon?

If I had been booking it and the Hotel advised me that there was also a home match on that day - I'd probably change the date or move the time to a bit later so as to avoid the riff raff in any case.

How do you know it was a christmas party?

Could've been a birthday party, engagement party, or just an excuse for a p!ss up. Either way - as the hotelier you'd still take the booking wouldn't you!

royalexile Planning and timing.

So the club should ask to move all fixtures that clash with Hotel Xmas parties?

Simple economics. The Hotel is a separate entity and have to get maximum occupancy and maximize revenue streams. Having a christmas party will generate far more money than matchday bar receipts on a game. It's frankly rediculous that anyone should suggest that the hotel shouldn't hold christmas parties on matchdays.

I can't even believe people are arguing over this.

The Windsor Bar is part of the stadium, not the hotel.

That's a rather moot point, savage4england.

Team Burbs - Always on the same day as the last home game of the season and usually kicks off around 9am in the Monks.

The hotel must be losing a fair bit of business over the Crimbo period due to the health club being closed. I made a provisional booking there for a few days over Christmas then the kids said they wanted to go somewhere that had a swimming pool open so we booked elsewhere in Reading area.

I spoke to one of the doormen and he said that residents get priority over general punters. With the xmas party the bar upstairs was closed. They were expecting over 200 residents back from Newbury races so had to account for them as well.

The hotel will do whats best money wise, as you'd expect. £100 minimum a night room, plus bar tab and possible food over someone who wants a couple of pints..

I know of at least 40 people who usually have 6 pints + food before each game, following the Leeds game they're now taking their custom elsewhere, I'm sure there must be others dong the same. Seems like for some reason JM was happy to take a few quick quid instead of keeping long term customers happy so he can expect the hotels takings to be down moving forward.

no doubt JM was more worried about the guests he has that turn up a few times a year, pay for a room, dinner, breakfast, soft porn, drinks all evening....

TBH if I was a paying guest in the hotel I would not be chuffed and I couldn't get into the bar because non residents were using it for a couple of drinks before a football game.

paying guests have to be the priority

I couldn't get in after the Leeds game. I went in as usual after Coventry.

Still rammed. Same faces.
