West Stand Man Why is it always up to someone else to deliver. Surely if the fans (thats us, just in case you forgot) started singing it on a regular basis it would catch on.

By all means get an anthem started without support from the sound system.

If Anfield can't do it, how do you expect the Madejski to?

Are you seriously suggesting that when the Liverpool crwod sings 'You'll never walk alone' it is supported by the PA, or when Stoke fans sing 'Delilah' or when West ham fans sing 'I'm forever blowing' and when ........ etc etc.

You really do need to think before spouting.

Before a game, Liverpool fans sing along to the PA system.

And that's been an anthem for 40 years!

.. but they don't need the PA during the game, and it was a new anthem once upon a time. Traditions have to start somewhere.

Lord give me patience.

I'm confused. We seem to be agreeing but you're saying something different.

Traditions do have to start somewhere and the Club playing SC over the PA system at 2.52 every Saturday will get it going.

They don't sing it during the game, or at least not right until the end on some occasions.

RZR is also right to point out that before the game it is the PA who instigates the singing.

I would also refer you to the history of YNWA at Anfield:-

"In the 1960s, the DJ at Anfield would play the top-ten commercial records in ascending order, with the number one single transmitted last, shortly before kickoff. Supporters standing on the Kop terrace would sing along, but once "You'll Never Walk Alone" dropped out of the top-ten, says Marsden, they continued to sing along"

So even it's origins are at least in some part thanks to the PA.

Ergo, nothing wrong with the club promoting it as a song and encouraging fans to sing it before kick off. If it's good enough for the Kop I think it's good enough for the mighty East Stand.

Thanks, Seal, for doing the homework to support my point that I had no intention of doing myself.

Y21_Royal Came up on my iPod as I walked to work yesterday. It got me wondering what the hell happened to it. Why did the club stop playing it before matches and more importantly, can we please have it back?
Blame the back the boys and make some noise mob, they play the same old shit every game.

Agreed - they had the oppotunity to carry SC on after the 106 year and failed to do so. They do not seem to understand the concept of developing a tradition like say Everton of always having the players come out to the same music.

Ferris What about "You were always on my mind"?

Definetely this. I suggested this to the people doing the Biscuit Boys thing a couple of years ago, always thought it would work as a club song and I don't think anyone else sings it.

Maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have
Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Maybe I didn't hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
And I guess I never told you
I'm so happy that you're mine

If I made you feel second best
Girl I'm so sorry I was blind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind

Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me, give me one more chance to keep you satisfied, satisfied

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
