John Smith
Rea Ding Tickets arrived, missed last pre season against them so first time I will see us play them. Sadly I have been to the county ground before so know what to expect

I quite like the ground. Shame we will be over in the side of the stand, a nice sunny evening in the open bit would have been nice. Just hoping there's a pub option though.

Yer would of preferred that too. You really like their ground ?? Not just because its swindon but one of my least favourite grounds

Isn't the stand on the side got a fairly small away section?

If we sold that out then it's possible we could take more fans in the area behind the goal.

I know our allocation is about 950. It seems possible we will sell that and maybe more

Why can't we even sell out 956 tickets for this?

I know it's only a friendly but we should sell out ffs. Got my tickets the day they went on sale. I think a lot of the fan base are to young to have experienced the whole Swindon/Oxford rivalry. Their loss.

Excellent - any idea if we will get any more tickets available or do you think that's it? I guess it's probably it as the match is only next week?

EDIT: Just read this: http://www.readingfc.co.uk/tickets/away ... psf-16-17/

we have increased our allocation to 1,356 and the additional tickets are now available behind the goal on the Stratton Bank (uncovered).

If it's a nice evening I'll probably see if I can get transferred over to the uncovered end. Might try and pass a 4 pack over the wall too!

Someone on twitter was asking if you could move. I stood in the terrace area for a Swindon game (had a free ticket). It was OK, a bit like Pompey years ago before it covered up it's away end.

I think I will stick to the side area - hopefully can stand there as well.

Any other thoughts on pubs for this match? Nothing obvious jumping out, I see some people mention the old town area.

Swindon is pretty much an unmitigated Shit hole. Dreariest large town I have ever seen. Makes Reading look like Bath. I used to work for FGW and went there (too) often. There was a reasonable pub on the road down from the station IIRC, which sold a decent pint, but don't hold your breaths

Work in Swindon so i know a few pubs to consider:

The Merlin is the other side of the magic roundabout and allows away fans, and if you walk up a bit further there is a Harvester called The Grove that has a large bar area and plenty of seating outside.

Plenty of pubs in the town centre with the best being Sir Danns, decent cheap pint and it's on 2 floors so plenty of room.

Failing that you are looking at a bit of a walk, although The Sun Inn next to Coate Water park is considered to be one of the best pubs in Swindon, but it's about 2 miles from the ground (about 1/2 mile from the Hospital as you come off of junction 15)

Thanks - very helpful.

We are getting the train arriving about 430. Need to eat and I quite like the look of the merlin - they do food too.

Will go there I think but may check out sir Daniel pub you mentioned
